Default On BES - Can my company monitor my web usage

Please Login to Remove!

I have 3 web browsers - Cingural, Internet and Blackberry and i am on the Enterprise.

Curious, if I go and surf the web on my BB can my company monitor my web usage? Would it be on all 3 browsers or doesn't make a difference?

thanks

I believe they can track everything you do on it. I could be wrong but web browsing I believe can be traced by them.

I think they can only monitor your web usage on the BlackBerry browser which uses the BES to handle web requests

On BES, everything that is done on the bb is event logged....sms, call logs, web, etc.....

Default Yes and No...

Yes, its all logged, but how easy it is to research is a little different... I see VERY easy to read logging of all phone calls on our instances of BES 4.1.2. (Our PIN and SMS logs are empty...but that's because people here rarely, if every, use PIN and SMS.)

For web browsing, the MDAT log shows all the URL's accessed via the BES along with the PIN...in this format (all the italics are where I've x'd out identifying info):

EVENT = Receiving, TAG = xxxxxxxxxx, DEVICEPIN = 23xxxxxx, USERID = uxx, VERSION = 16, CONNECTIONID = xxxxxxxx, SEQUENCE = 0, TYPE = CONNECTION-REQUEST, CONNECTIONHANDLER = httpc, PROTOCOL = TCP, PARAMETERS = []MSNBC - Today's News from MSNBC Front Page, SIZE = 671>

So, yes, they can figure out what you've been browsing, but they need to research by PIN number and go back and associate the PIN number with an individual.

Only the Blackberry Browser is routed through BES/MDS, however, it's best to assume (and I'll say this yet again) that nothing is private on a BES-connected Blackberry.
