| | Bb 8700g Battery issue? Lens replacement

Ok, so I work for a fairly big tech company--and we buy LARGE lots of PCs/Electronics/Printers, etc... Well, yesterday we got a shipment of LCD's in to refurb and I noticed an extra box shrink-wrapped to the top of the pallet. Ended up being a box of Blackberries! Glory day! I went to the owner and made mention about it--if he knew they were in the order. He said that it was a fairly blind order.. he wasn't sure what all would be included.
I quickly rummaged through them and found the newest looking one. It was an 8700G. Now these are all used units with no batteries or SIMs. The particular one I picked out for myself had a cracked lens. I connected it up to my computer to try to get the screen on to see if that was damaged as well. Sure enough it wasn't... SOLD!
Now, my friend who works @ Cing is bringing me up a new battery tonight for it. However, I'm very impatient and my other friend around the corner has an older BB. It's the slimmer silver one with 2 letters per button... the model # eludes me. I pulled his battery and the sim from my phone and put them into the 8700G. Now, when I first checked the phone (connecting it via USB) I got a blank screen with a battery/slash logo. I assumed this was because there was no battery in the unit. Well, when I put my friends (charged) battery into mine... It shows the indicator light as RED for a few seconds, then it goes off and the screen comes on with the same battery icon. Are the BB batteries very model specific? Do newer ones use higher voltage batteries? Perhaps I picked out a BB that has some internal issues?
Is this a common problem? Is there a specific model battery I will need for my 8700G?
While I'm making this thread I should ask... Where's the cheapest place to find a new lens for this beast?
Thanks in advance for any insights. I instantly came here for help because I used to have a Sidekick and they are loaded with issues that seem to infect almost every unit and the SK board members seemed very knowledgeable with all of the common quirks that came with the things...
