Unhappy 8700g used... can't unlock... Helpith!

Please Login to Remove!

I just recently posted another thread in reguards to my newly acquired 8700g. Well, the batteries that my friend bought me got the unit up and running. I'm now however at a lock screen and don't have the password. I called a friend of mine @ cingular and they said I need to flash the unit to remove that PW. I tried many searches on here and the closest thing I could find to what I was looking for was...
Quote:
- Locate "JL_CMDER" on this board and use it to wipe out the BB - the BB will show an error "507" (No OS Found) after the wipe
- Download and install the latest version of the 8700 Handheld OS onto your PC
- Locate and delete VENDOR.XML from your PC C: drive
- Start Desktop Manager and it should reload.
Now, I found CMDER and installed and ran it. It however also needs your password to be able to whipe the unit.

Is there a true way to flash or whipe this drive without having the unlock password?

I tried to call the company that owned it previously, and left them a message... I doubt they will get back to me though. Also, I'm in PA and the company that owned this was in CA. Place called "The Capital Group Companies, Inc"

I really want to start playing with my new gizmo!!! please help!

Thanks in advance,
-JD

Just type the incorrect password 10 times. That will wipe all the previous user data and allow you into the BB.

John is correct. However, you may find that you can not disable the password requirement if it was set through IT Policy.
To remove the requirement (and any other restrictions imposed by the previous owner's BES), see Unlocking the Blackberry.

Well, getting the PW off was easier then I thought.

My big issue now is unlocking the phone with tmobile. If you call 1800tmobile they basically laugh at you and hang up on you... very rude. I talked with my friend @ Cing and he talked to the tmo store across from him to try to get the phone unlocked for me and they said I need a "corporate store". That reg. stores don't have access to do unlocks.

I went to this forums one sponsor.. the blackberry unlock site--and unfortunately they do not support the 8700g yet. I've also looked around here and read a few horror stores where members went to other gsm unlock sites and paid, but never recieved their codes. Now the question is... is it even possible for me to unlock this dang thing? If so, is there a reputable site that supports my model? Any tmobile employees here who could shed light?

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Many of us have used GSMPhoneSource and they do unlock the 8700s; they unlocked my 8700 3 days after they came out a long time ago.

T-Mobile will not help you unless you are a T-Mobile customer in good standing.

I'll second GSMPhoneSource. My 8700c was unlocked long ago shortly after its initial release.

While this may remove a password requirement for a BlackBerry, unlocking services are meant to unlock a device from being restricted to using only one vendor's network.

Before you use one of these services, make sure it's going to do what you want. While removing IT Policy is a bit tricky, it's not too hard and certainly worth trying before spending $20-$50 for a service to do it.

Just an update... I didn't see this thread till just now in reguards to gsmphonesource.

I still had access to a few more BB's at work so I just went and bought another. LOL. It's an older model (7100), but it's in MINT condition and much better then the POS Pantech I have now (worlds smallest and shittiest phones)

Thanks for your help in removing the PW & IT policy. I had to do the same thing with the 7100 so I knew just what to do when I got it.

That said.... anyone want to purchase a like-new 8700g for T-Mobile w/ new battery for a good price?

Cheers,
-JD

You should keep the 8700g. It is a better device. You can get it unlocked for less than $40 through GSMPhoneSource. Sell the 7100 for $100 and you more than make up for that cost...you didn't pay more than $100 for the 7100, right?

I don't recall GSMPhoneSource offering password or IT policy removal but it's been a long time...
