Default BB7100: Newb Help Please

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I just bought my first Blackberry yesterday. I have been playing around with the features all of yesterday and noticed there was no browser. I googled and found a lot of information- too much for me to handle.
I don't even know which 7100 version i have (i bought a refurbished. unlocked one with just the label 7100). I am currently using a SIM card from FIDO (Canada):pre-paid. The message up top used to say data connection refused but I chose the network manually and now it just says Fido and gprs (lower case). I tried going to options->advanced options->host routing table->register now and still no browser icon.

Can someone please help me to get the browser up in the easiest way possible? As well as figure out how to use the email feature- which also doesn't work (because I don't know how).
I know this may seem like a lot but I would really appreciate the help. I know the blackberry is capable of so much and i want to use it to the full potential.

Also i did use the search button but i wanted to double check since I don't want to mess up my blackberry by mistaking directions. Thanks in advance to anyone who is up to the challenge.

Welcome to BB Forums.

Fido does not support the BlackBerry.

You can not get any data functionality on Fido with a BlackBerry
You can not use any browser on a BlackBerry on the Fido network.

On Fido all you will have is voice and SMS text.

There is no way around this.

As long as it is REALLY unlocked, and you get a BlackBerry Data Plan on the Rogers account, then it should work fine.

What do you mean by REALLY unlocked?
Also will a BlackBerry Data Plan work on a prepaid card Rogers account? Or does it have to be on monthly payment accounts?
Btw, thanks so far for the responses- very helpful.

Many advertise BlackBerrys for sale as being unlocked. Some are not.

And I do not believe you can get the BlackBerry Data Plan on a prepaid Rogers SIM card. Someone from Rogers (or a Rogers customer) would certainly know more.

When you put the Fido card did it work as a phone?
If it did, then it is unlocked.

Oh cool it did work as a phone. Thanks very much for your help.
After doing further research on the data plan i have decided to get it when i get out of university with a better paying job.
I am now researching third party programs, games, ringtones etc. possibilities. Thanks again.
