Here's the deal. I have a BB Pearl and I was able to get ringtones for the phone via sending them to myself and opening the email in gmail then saving the tone and assingning it to be a ringtone. Is there a similar way to email a MP3 clip to a 8700 series BB. Where the recipient can open the email and play the tone then have the option to save it as a ringtone?

You can email your self a link of the mp3 link that you want. Let it load and then save it on your device.

So I would need to find somewhere to host the tone not send it as an attachment?

That's right. You need a site to host the MP3 for you to download from with your BB browser. From one of the threads I read around here, one way around this, is to use Yahoo briefcase. If you save your MP3 to your Yahoo briefcase, you can access that briefcase through the BB browser and download from there.

I set up an account and for some reason it will not let me download any files to the folders I set up. Anyone else have this problem? I get a (Please specify a valid file name to upload!) error message every time no matter what I do.

Well, here is the error I get. If the file is over 500kb my 8703e won't let me download it.

Is that the issue with yours?

No. I can't even download them ON TO the briefcase site. Everytime I try and upload it I get the error message "Please specify a valid file name to upload!"

That's strange because I save files of all types to my Yahoo briefcase all the time. The only thing I can think of is that the file is corrupt or the file is too big, although file size shouldn't be an issue. The other issue may be Yahoo itself. I know the past few days, the Yahoo site for me has been sluggish.

Try renaming the file or saving it somewhere else.

I've tried everything for the past 3 hours to get it to work with NO avail. Bummed out because I think this would be perfect for my needs. Are there any other sites out there that allow for similar uploads?

"If you don't have hosting abilities or want to fill out the info for free hosting (freewebs.com) there is a way to still get ring tones to your phone via email if you have a gmail account.

All you have to do is email the ringtone to yourself (less than 500kb) on your PC to your gmail account then log into gmail on your BB. Switch it to HTML mode if it's not already and open the email you sent to yourself, it will be in your inbox.

At the bottom of the email, next to the attachment you'll see an option to scan and download, click that and let it load, then save the tune to your BB. You can then go into your profile section and set the tune to your ringtone."

Turns out you can't upload to Yahoo Briefcase from a Mac computer. Yahoo e-mailed me back last night.

I used the Gmail route for my pearl but some of the clients I need to send the tone to don't have a gmail account.

I know tripod/lycos allow a free FTP account, sounds like it would be a good option? Its free and about 20MB of space.

If you would like, I could host some of your ringtones on my site. Just send it as an attachment to my email (missedotorg@gmail.com) and i'll send you back the link of it once uploaded.

Anyone have a good link to a place where I can download some *good* free ring tones? The stock ones sure blow!!!! Anyone?
