Number Key & Alt Key On the 8703e we have a user whose Blackberry gives her capitals when she uses the number key and numbers when she uses the ALT key. Has anyone seen this before? Is there a fix for it? |

Thanks. I did. blackberry.com/knowledgecenterpublic/livelink.exe/fetch/2000/8067/645045/8533/1271687/1271651/BlackBerry_8703e_-_Getting_Started_Guide.pdf?nodeid=1291990&vernum=0 While it does make sense that the ALT key would produce a number because that is the alternate character, this guide does state that the number key should produce numbers, not capitals. What guide did you see this to be otherwise? |
It is a shift key that when combined with the ALT key produces Number lock and the Cap key is a shift key that when combined with the ALT key produces CAPs lock |
That is why when the user depresses the NUM key, they get the small icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen which reads CAP. |

On every full qwerty Blackberry when you use the Alt key with another key you'll get whatever is on the top half of the key. That also applies for both shift keys which have a triangle (shift) on the bottom half and Num on the upper half of the left one and Cap on the upper half of the right one. Num and Cap are secondary functions (Num Lock and Cap Lock) of the two shift keys. It makes perfect sense -- it's completely consistent behavior. |
Great info I am so glad I found this forum. I couldn't figure out why I didn't get Numbers with the Num key pressed! Thanks for the info!(y) |
