I have an 8700c for work and am considering picking up a Pearl for when I want to travel lighter. How problematic is it to keep the basic PIM functions in sync between the two devices. I use Outlook as my desktop PIM.

When you use the Desktop Manager to sync a BB, If it sees a different PIN number it will ask if you want to switch to the new number. It is possible to switch each time you sync but you will have to do a backup before the switch.
There may be other methods to use two BB's and if you do a search on the forum you may find alternatives

You do not have to "switch" between the two devices. Just connect the two and configure Intellisync for PIM syncing you'll be fine.

I have a 8700c and a 7100i. The 8700c is on our BES(Microsoft Exchange). So your saying I can sync both and push to both devices. Above you say connect the two. Explain in detail pls.....

When I connect a different BB I get asked if I want to switch so I must have an option set different. Any ideas would be appreciated also.

No, you can not push to both devices (unfortunately). One will be synchronized to the BES and one will sync using the USB cable and your PC. That way you can keep the calendar and contacts synchronized on the two devices. E-mail will only be available on your 8700c (since that's the one tied to the BES).

If you're asked to switch devices, say no and set up the PIM synching via Intellisync in the Desktop Manager.

I use a 7130 and an 8100....
Have no problem syncing them both.
Have DM 4.2 and when I connect, it just sees which device I'm on and syncs.

Both mine are on BIS, but its easy to do w/outlook and DM 4.2
