Default 3G and Edge questions

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone.

First the stupid questions !

What is the relationship ( if any ), beteween 3G and Edge?
On an 8700, how do you know if you are connected to 3G and /or Edge?

Now a semi-intellignet question:

A (Vodafone) user says he has 3G here in the UK, but not when he goes to the US. Why?

He has colleagues who have 3G in the US, but they dont get it when they come to the the UK! why?

Thanks for any replies....

EDGE is not 3G; EDGE is an intermediate step in technology.

As with many other technoligies, US 3G is not compatible with 3G in the rest of the whole world (we like to be different, apparently). So the 8707v (Vodafone 3G device) will show 3G in the UK, but GPRS in the US. There is an icon at the top that will show 3G, EDGE or GPRS.

There are no US based 3G BlackBerrys yet - there are some other 3G devices, but not BBs.

Does that help (even a little)?

wow! that explain why my 8707v only show GPRS. Got mine from Ebay UK guess I just wasted money on it. Just have to go back using my 8700v.
