Default 7130 Cingular network selection

Please Login to Remove!

Hello...

I travel a lot along the US-Canada border, and I've found an annoying issue with my 7130 (Cingular) Blackberry.

The issue is, essentially, that I need to be REALLY far inside of Canada for the device to stop using a very weak Cingular signal, even though there is a Rogers network (with full strength) available to it. The unit basically has to see NO Cingular network whatsoever before it will even attempt to look for Rogers.

With my old unit (older blue case), this wasn't a problem - it would happily jump to the Rogers network as soon as it figured out that it was more powerful than the Cingular network.

I do not have the ability to manually change networks, either - in the Network selection screen, it is automatic only.

Is there any way to help this situation out? Any help that you could provide would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

in network selection, if you click on AUTOMATIC (or while automatic is highlighted, hold down the ALT key), does it not give you a choice to change to manual?

Unfortunately, no (sorry - was in the hospital recently and am just getting back to these messages).

In the network screen, it says "Network:Cingular", and there is no means of changing from automatic to manual or anything other than that.

It WILL roam on Rogers, no problem - but the algorithm in place for deciding WHEN to do that favours the Cingular side so heavily that the device needs to see *NO* Cingular network at all (even an unusable fraction) before it'll switch.
