I have the leather holster for my 7100i. Does the phone go into standby mode when put into the holster? I noticed 2 metal pieces once on each side of the case that I thought caused the phone to go into standby mode. I noticed in the beginning that the backlight would automatically shutoff/come on when the phone is pulled in and out of the holster. Because if this is the case, its not doing it now.

If you are not sure if you have the sleeper magnets in your holster (wherever you purchased it from should have stated if it had the magnet or sleeper/standby ability), try seeing it a paperclip will stick to the holster.

If it does, magnet inside. If not...

The sleeper function is provided by a magnet in the case. Smaller magnets (and cheaper magnets) are much easier to demagnetize, and your sleeper function goes away. I had a Seidio holster that lost it's ability to sleep, & Seidio was kind enough to provide me with a new magnet & felt pad. I cheated & used the new magnet & the older weaker one, (as they are pretty thin) and now it goes to sleep before it's snapped into the holster.

The magnet should be located between the send & end keys when the 7100i is in the case in order to put it to sleep. Contact your case manufacturer to see if it's a warranty issue.

I did the paper clip test and the paper clip did stick to the case. Now the magnets however are located down near the 7,8.9 keys. Maybe they slid down, not sure.

Is it best to keep it in the holster in sleeper mode rather than just have it lying on my desk?

it really doesn't matter, other than to preserve battery life. I keep mine holstered most of the time other than when it might be charging while at my desk.

That's where they're supposed to be.

I just did a quick test with an old magnet & my 7100i. It only goes to sleep if the magnet is between the send/end row & the first row of numbers. It ignores it higher or lower. 789 is much too low.
