Default 8800 as a media player prep

Please Login to Remove!

Prepping for the arrival of the 8800. Already ordered my MicroSD card and looking into what I'm going to need to make it usable as a decent media player.

Plan on using it to listen to podcasts and music while at the gym or away from the office. I've heard that you will not be able to listen to music via a bluetooth headset because of the lack of A2DP or something like that. Also if it's like the Pearl it doesn't have a normal sized headphone jack so none of my existing headphones will work without a clunky adapter.

Is there a decent set of headphones out there that I can 'just use' with the 8800? Built in mic giving the ability to use as a headset while at the gym would be nice but is definitely not a requirement. Looking for the best possible 'poor mans iPod' replacement so I can only drag a single device with me to the gym.

Sorry if this is a repost of anything. My quick and lazy search didn’t find quite what I was looking for.

Are you sure about one device? I was all set to do the same until the new Shuffle came along. With the full integration into iTunes it was a no brainer for me, at $75. I will still use my 8800 for some music out of convenience. In terms of headphones, look at the OEM one for 29$. I haven't been paying that much attention, but I will now. Not sure there is a better set up, assuming you want it to properly respond when a phone call comes in.

According to the press release, it will come with headphones. Might want to check them out before spending more money.

Can the 8800 recognize a 2GB or larger microSD card?

The 8800 will recognize a 2Gb chip. Don't know about the larger chips as they aren't even available yet. When the Pearl came out it didn't support the 2Gb chip. It only took an OS upgrade, though.

As for headphones, I'd definitely wait until it comes out and see what's included. The newer Pearls are shipping with stereo headphones. I got one of the originals and it only came with the standard phone headset.

Does anyone know if the 8800 will have the ability to stream internet radio?

My Pearl came with the stereo headphones. They are NOT good. For one thing, the split of the wiring is not 50/50 right and left. One side is much longer and has the mic on it, the other is short. It looks ridiculous.

The sound quality was not very good at all, cutting in and out between left and right ears. I'm looking for a small adapter or some headphones I can "just use" with my Pearl.

^^ I can not speak to the problems cutting out but Id assume that the difference in length is to allow one ear's cable to loop around the back of the head. This will allow the wire to hand down one side of the body, not right down your center line.

RE: 8800 media features, I really really want this to have A2DP! I think I am going to be disapointed in that though.

um, the mic is supposed to hang on the left hand side and the right headphone goes around the back of your neck...
