Need Help! 8703 now or 7250 and wait on 8800?

All,

I am on Verizon and here are my options:

1. Purchase a used 7250 now for $100 and use it while waiting onthe 8800 on Verizon.

2. Wait 1.5 months (when it is time for a new phone) and get a 8703 with the new every two years plan for $150 and have that.

3. Of course I could buy an 8703 now for $300ish and then sell it and get the 8800 at upgrade price when it comes out.

I am leaning toward option 1 for now but let me know your thoughts/input. My understanding is that the 7250 and the 8703 both allow tethering via a USB cable. Thanks!

I'm on Verizon with the 8703e and frankly love the device. Depending on who you ask, the timing for the 8800 or some variant of it for VZW is looking like Q307. What you decide to do really depends on what you want the device for. On Cingular, the 8800 will have multimedia capabilities, QWERTY keyboard and a memory slot, but no camera. Also, it will have a trackball instead of the trackwheel. I don't know how much of this will apply to the VZW model when it comes out.

albiesf,

Did you use a 7250 before? It is the predecessor the 8703. I know that the 8703 is a nicer screen and unit, but if the 7520 will do the work for now, I would hate to burn my purchase on a 8703 and then have the 8800 come out. This is unknown - some say Q2 07 and others Q3 07???

Any input from former 7250 owners as the big advantages of the 8703 over the 7250. I am new to Blackberry but already "drinking the coolaid" and wanting to get going with a BB. I could always sell the 7250 and get a 8703 if the wait is going to be to long I guess. Thanks for any and all input!

I've used the 7250 which seems to have a better build quality than the 8703while the 8703 is knows for its screen quality. The 7250 works just fine and if you're using it for emails, it should be more than you need. As for waiting for the 8800, it's really your call. The 7250 should give you what you need in the meantime and holding out for the 8800 shouldn't be an issue as long as you're patient.

albiesf,

Thanks for the input - any others with input or thoughts?

wait for the 9xxx series.

Go for the 8700.... Sell it and pay for the 8800 when it's released :)

Went from the 7250 to the 8703e a month or so ago.

It's pretty simple. If you use the device strictly for email, then go for the 7250. If you like pictures & are also using the device as your primary phone, go for the 8703e. The phone on the 8703 is light years ahead of the 7250, with clarity, speakerphone, & dedicated end/send buttons.

For what it's worth, I love the 8703 & I loved the 7250. It was worth the upgrade from over here...

Go for the 7250 I don't think the 8800 will take that much longer to come out, plus you may find you want to wait for a variant with a camera or newer features. I don't think the 8800 is that much of an upgrade over the 8703e from what I've seen anyway

Any Others?

Thanks for the input so far. Anybody else that has input. I have a few saying go to the 8703 and one saying go with the 7250 and then the 8800?

If the 8703 "build quality" (i.e. how it feels) is a concern to you, I wouldn't hold your breath for the 8800. I haven't used the 8800 myself but I doubt it will be anything like the 72XX series.

Honestly, I don't understand the "feel" concerns with the 87XX series. Yes, the lens does scratch easily (get a screen protector). However, I've dropped mine many times on concrete, sending it scattering across the pavement. Aside form cosmetic scratches, it still works perfectly and it's just as reliable as ever. Don't fool yourself into thinking that the 72XX's are indestructable. With as many units as we deploy there are plenty that come back to us in a titally unusable shape. Granted, I have no idea how these people destroyed their 7290's but where there's a will, there's a way...

I too am a Verizon customer hanging on to my Motorola 815E because I don't know when or if the 8800 is coming. I am having the same dilemma...purchase the 8703e or wait and wait and wait for the the possibility of getting the 8800. HELP!!!!

Option

Maries,

There is a forum member that is selling multiple 7250 (previous model to the 8703e) for $100 shipped in the Buy and Sell forum. This is an option to get into the Blackberry now and then see what happens with the 8800 release??

Love my 8703e. Have heard Q2 and Q3 on 8800 release on VZW. I would go with LunkHead and buy the 8703e, then sell and get the 8800 when it comes out. That is what I have done in the past with my old phones I have upgraded from.

The 8703e is $350 shipped to buy out of a plan (mine is due end of March). I wonder what the 8703e would sell for once the 8800 is out? How much did the 7250 sell for before the 8703e was out? Thanks for the help.

I want to say around $499 was the full retail, but don't quote me.

Decided for now!

Well,

I decided to buy a used 7250 for now ($100) and I should be able to get about that out of it if I were to sell it in the next few months. I am afraid if the 8800 for Verizon comes out then the price on the used 8703e will drop from $350 to $150. In about 6 weeks I will be able to buy whatever is available for around $150 for a new unit (8703e or 8800). I can decide then to wait or buy. I want to get connected with a Blackberry and get BES setup (via ExchangeMyMail which is highly ranked by this forum) and have full wireless sync working and also have my data plan setup and going.

As I mentioned I am a realtor and my busy season is starting and I need the full wireless sync and web access to my MLS so this will get me going! Thanks again and any other input is appreciated.

Mike
