Default What is [Default] email account?

Please Login to Remove!

I use a company provided 8700 with our company's BES. I also have a mycingular email address and my personal pop3 email registered on the 8700.

When I open the Compose Email function it defaults to Send Using: [Default]. I know how to select the other accounts. What I'd like to know is what controls what is the default account, and can the default be changed to one of the other accounts?

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

You shoukd be able to go to options, advanced, applications and messages services and select your default there.

However, I have "told" that your BB message will also by default use the last service used to email that contact, much like when you select a contact to call, if you have more than one phone number listed, the BB will default to the last number called to that contact.

Thanks for the reply all.

I found it in options/advanced/Message Services. I also like the idea that the Blackberry will remember the last address used to contact a particular email address. I just need to be a little cautious. For what are probably obvious reasons, I prefer not to be sending business messages from my personal account(s).

Thanks again. I drilled down through lots of menus and never found that one.

Keep an eye out here on the forums for the release of v4.2 for the 8700's. 4.2 has a feature to mark the backgrounds of the email bodies to help differentiate between BES mail and other messages. I have this set up on my Pearl and it really helps out in this regard.

Is that firmware 4.2 you're referring to?

If so, I probably will have to pass on it. If I flash new firmware I'd have to get IT to do a new Enterprise Activation and they take a dim view of us lowly users tinkering.

You can upgrade AND start a new Activation automatically if you can connect to your email system via vpn or lan. If Desktop Manager is installed for BES use, connect to your VPN and run Desktop Manager and make sure that it picks up your work email profile. Once in Desktop Manager it should say "Connected" and "Online." If you have an online connection in desktop manager then after the upgrade process the Enterprise Activation will begin automatically. If anything happens, though, you will, indeed, have to confess to the IT folks. However, this process works for me every time.
