Default I'm curious, who's the fastest....

How many words per minute can you type on your bb?

I personally have never timed myself, yet, but some guys I work with WOW. It's actually funny to watch them manipulate that thing!

No contest. Our BBF Mod Mark Rejhon can do 73 words per minute or over 350 or so keypresses at 5 letters per word.

With my Pearl and SureType I was up to a respectable 20 or 25 wpm. With typos.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.02; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I don't know how to time myself accurately but I am sure it is around 30 a minute on the BB.

I thought Suretype was supposed to get rid of typos. ?

I would like an easy way to check. I know I'm about 65 on a computer keyboard, so I would have to assume I can hit about 30-40 on the Bb.

I just timed myself. I got 25wpm on my 8703e, and anywhere from 65-80 wpm on a conventional keyboard typing prepared and unfamiliar text.

Not so hot, but in my defense, I've only had the BB a couple of months.

What makes you think that? On the computer you have 10 fingers doing the work and on the BB you only have two. Plus with all of the shared jeys for punctuation and whatnot, your wpm has to be cut into at least a third. Your thumbs just can't be that fast can they?

I could bust out about 4 or 5 words a minute on my 8700.... The tiny keys of the 8100 have me at about one or two words a minute now.... With one or two typo's..... LOL

are these speeds set with prescripted text or is it random responses to emails? Maybe memorized songs for speed? just wondering.

I would definitley say that they are testing with predefined text cuz anything close to 50 is insane with your thumbs.

How do you guys calculate this? Pick something to retype and type it on your BB timing yourself for a minute and then counting how many words you typed?

I had a segment of text that contained 30 words, varying from 1 to 10 characters in length (first paragraph from the Gettysburg Address, if you're curious). Average word length was 6 characters. I had the Windows clock up on my laptop display, started typing as the second hand hit 12, then checked the second hand when I finished. Across three attempts, I came up with an average of 70 seconds to complete the paragraph on my BB. 30 words / 70 seconds = 0.428571429 words/second * 60 seconds = 25.7 words per minute.

And you are a liar as well. A, I, to, at, the, be, can, too, two, one, etc. all in a row don't count as a true 55-60 words. At least form a completely sentence or two. No way you're doing 60wpm on a blackberry keyboard. I can believe 85-90 on a regular though...since that's about where I am.

Now why would a person with only 9 posts, and only been a member for less than a month go and call someone who has been here for 2 years and has 413 posts, a liar. Can we say Jealous. If you do a proper search of the forums, you will find there are typing tests you can take on the BB to show your wpm. The last one I took, about a month ago was 57 wpm, and its not A, I, to, at, etc etc. So believe what you want.

I just tested my typing speed on unfamilar text after two weeks of Blackberry ownership, and I hit just under 45 wpm. Getting up to 55-60 doesn't at all strike me as out of the realm of possibility.
