Default 8800 Transferring applications

Please Login to Remove!

I searched for this but couldnt find the answer. I want to transfer my 3rd party apps from my 8700 to my 8800. They are in the application loader for my 8700 and do a backup but when i connect my 8800 they arent there to load. I am at work and they might be on my home computer. Is there any way to get them from the 8700? Or do I have to wait to home and get them?

If you're using the 4.2 desktop manager software, simply use the switch device wizard and all applications will be copied over.

This does not mean they'll all work.

How did you do it? I think it will work if I go home to my home computer. Might have to leave work right now to do it.

I plugged in my pearl (old phone) and hit the transfer device wizard (or whatever it is called). Then it prompts to hook up the new phone to the pc, then I hit next and it did it's thing.

Default Basic but critical

As referenced in a previous post in this thread, use the included CD

I had Desktop V4.2 with the "Switch Device" feature which I used and transferred exactly "0" applications from my 8700 C even though the box to do so was checked. Not good.

I reinstalled the Desktop V4.2 from the CD (did not uninstall the existing) and it appeared to transfer over every third party application I had installed including Opera Mini, Gmail, Google Maps, Jive Talk, Mino, Lex Spell, Berry 411, etc.

So far I can confirm that Gmail, Google Maps, Lex Spell, Berry 411 all work. I may have a provisioning issue with BB corrector, Jive Talk and some others. They load, just do not connect correctly, which tells me it is likely a setting rather than an incompatible version.

Edit: BB Corrector now works with APN settings entered correctly, still working on Jive Talk.

All I can figure is my version of 4.2 desktop needed to be updated for the switch device feature to work.

Default Aha, that's what I ran into

Silly me - I had just upgraded to the VZW 8830 from the 7250 and ran into the same problem. I turns out that I had installed the incorrect version of the Desktop Manager, it was for the 7250 instead of the 8830.

That's what happens when you download the updated BBDM from Verizon's website and you download the incorrect one.

I shall try this again later tonight and see if the applications get transferred over. I did install them manually out of frustration but will see if I can transfer them again so the config files will go over.

Default Make this a sticky thread?

I'd like to see this as a sticky thread since this is an issue that folks may run into when importing data from an older Blackberry to the new one.
