Default Got my 8800, has any one been able to use Opera Mini?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

So I just got my 8800, last on the store had, so it seems the 8800 does not come equipped with the BB Browser, so we had to have a tech send it to my phone, then we tried to install Opera Mini which the request was sent from the opera mini site via SMS I am guessing.

We were able to instal it without hitch, but after running al the tests and at the end of the configuration we recieved the message that Opera could not connect to the internet.

The rep who is as much a phone junkie as the rest of us said his Pearl runs Opera Mini, but all the 8800's he provisioned that today would not connect online with Opera.

So with that being said, has any one been able to get it running?

In addition, on the 8800, there are a few things that are hidden, I actually think the BB browser was already on the phone, just not set as the default browser likewise for the BB Messenger.

Thanks in advance!

I think I do have BB browser preinstalled. Got it from Cingular. You sure you don't have it? On mine, there is a MediaNet and a Browser. The Browser is the good old BB Browser

I found that I have MEdiaNet and Internet Browser, but not BB Browser icon. You can select which browser is invoked when you click the browser icon by opening the browser and selecting (options: general properties: default browser).

FWIW, I find that Internet Browser is more useful than BB Browser because it supports push messages.

The internet browser, the one that "B" brings up if you disabled Home Screen Dialing, does have BlackBerry splash screen/icon at start-up. At least on mine.

After that splash screen, it goes into a page that says HTML Internet Browser. On that page there is a Cingular banner at top saying Cingular now the new at&t

Like I said, you can change the B key to bring up any of the three browsers -- give it a try.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Opera Mini is working fine on my 8800. I did have to do the setup as described perfectly by asimplefarmer. It's the the same setup I've used on my other BB models, 8100, 7130, 8700.

I've got opera mini on mine and it works perfectly, just like it did on my Pearl. I just selected the high memory version (not sure if this was right but works great) since it didn't detect my phone through the BB browser...
