Default Cingular 8800 $34.99 plan

Please Login to Remove!

I signed up on a second account today to get the BB8800 for the $299. I got the $34.99 unlimited BIS service with it. Although, i know I will not be able to get BB push services, if I take my SIM out of the BB and use in a Blackjack or other 3G device, will the Blackberry data plan allow me full data 3G services with those other phones?

Thanks much.

Any Blackberry Data Plan will give you access to all that Blackberries offer.

A Blackberry Data Plan will not work on any other phone. That's why they call it a Blackberry data plan. You'd have voice and SMS...that's it.

Actually, that is not entirely accurate. I have an unlocked E62 with the BlackBerry client on it. The only way I could get the BlackBerry client to work with BIS and BES was to have the (drum roll please) BlackBerry data plan from Cingular. The phone works perfectly.

If the Blackjack had a BlackBerry client written for it, it, too, would need a Blackberry Data Plan to have access to BIS and BES.

Thanks for the replies. The reason i asked is because on Tmobile if you have a BB plan, you can put your sim in other Tmobile phones and the data will work just fine since the Blackberry has the data attached to it.

Thanks again.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Yes, I have the Cingular BIS unlimited plan for my BB and routinely swap the sim with my other non BB phones. Data is data when it comes to phones other than the BB. Which requires a BB plan.

You should be paying $29.99 if you have a voice plan.

This has bene my experience with TMO. Haven't tried it with Cingular yet but TMO definitely provisions their BB data plans as supersets of the other data plans so you can move the SIM no a non-BB device and still have data. My understanding is that the BB data plans really just grant access to the BB APN's.

The 3g SIM card that cingular uses is different from the ones that come with the blackberry. It will have an actual 3g on it. It might still work in a different phone, but your not gunna get 3g unless you got the right SIM.

I'm sure he probably is, as Cingular/at&t just made a change to how they list the pricing.

It changed to $34.99 as posted on the web site and on my invoice, then on the "credits" line of the same invoice they give you the $4.99 back. My older invoices always reflected the $29.99, but no credit back.

Cheers...

Well said, and perfectly explained. Cingular / at&t follow the same procedure.

Cheers...

Wow information overloaded!

1. I was told my blackberry data plan is $39.99 a month when I got it two day ago. Shall I call and make sure? You guys said it's only $29.99?

2. Did someone suggest that with TM, once you take out the sim car from BB, the BB still works as a data only communicator? (i.e. mail)

3. Can someone explain to me with Cingular... will my data work when I put my sim card in another phone, and when my phone receives a different non-blackberry sim card?

What? You paid $34.99 and you don't get push mail? Why?

OK - Here goes:
If you sign up for a BlackBerry data plan (any flavor), you still get data access if you swap the SIM card to a non-BlackBerry device. This is assuming of course that the non-BlackBerry device is set up to access Cingular's data network.

If you happen to have a 3G Cingular SIM card, AND if the non-BlackBerry device is 3G capable (let's say it's a BlackJack for instance), then you will also have 3G data speeds.

I have observed this myself when swapping my 3G SIM from my Pearl to both my 8525 and BlackJack. I get around 900kbits to 1mbits/sec on either of the 3G phones using the 3G SIM that came out of my Pearl.

This means that, yes, you will be able to access data from a non-BlackBerry phone using the SIM card from your BlackBerry.

Hope this helps!

I have have been a long time Cingular customer and the local store manager is a friend of mine.

Here are the correct facts:

1) They (Cingular) have a few BB plans to choose from and are trained to sell the 39.99 plan or higher.

FACT: There is a $29.99 plan that gets you unlimited internet and data, it's all you need. I use massive amounts of data and internet time on my BB as I use it constantly every day.

Here is the Cingular/at&t code so that they cannot deny you: BBRYBISUNL when they punch this code it comes up as $29.99 everytime, without fail. This is the plan for you.

2) Your BlackBerry will work as a PDA, not a phone with the sim removed. This is true of all BlackBerrys no matter what carrier.

An example is I decide to move my sim to my RAZR. Now I have no sim in my BlackBerry but I want to see if I have an appointment tomorrow. I simply turn on the BB and look at my schedule. I can also sync with Outlook in my computer as well (without the sim). I can also look at my address book, tasks and anything that does not require that I go online.

FACT: you cannot get your email delivered to the BB without the sim card installed.

3) Yes all sim cards are the same basic protocol. The only difference is that a T-Mobile sim has there programming, and a Cingular / at&t card has their unique programming.
The basic contents of any sim card is your user account info and phone number. then if you choose, your names and numbers can be stored on the sim. However it's best to store then in the phones memory. This is what a BB does and a RAZR etc. That's why on the BB you can access your address book and schedule without having to install the sim card. All that info is saved to the phones memory, not on the sim.

FACT: You may remove the sim from your BB and use it in any other phone that works with the carrrier you are using. IE, if your BB is with Cingular, then the other phones you use must be with Cingular. Same holds true for T-Mobile

Finally: and not to confuse you, but there is a process called unlocking where the particular phone is unlocked so that it can be used on any GSM network. In the USA the only two GSM networks are T-Mobile and Cingular.

Hopefully I have answered your questions in a way that makes sense. Please do not hestitate to keep asking until you understand it.

Cheers...

You can actually use a non 3g SIM to get 3g Data. I have an old AT&T Wireless SIM i use in my 8700, swapped it out to the Blackjack (which is unlocked by Cingular anyways), and can get 3g speeds without a problem.

well the thing with the e62 is that it has blackberry connect on it. so it gives it the ability to do push emails. just like the treo has it also but u have to install the blackberry connect program to the device. but the blackberry plan alone won't work with the blackjack or the cingular 8125 8525 b/c they can't support them.

the $39.99 blackberry plan is called the blackberry max plan. whats nice about this is that it gives you 1000 messages along side the unlim email and internet. messages for mms, sms, im. those are not considered as emails and would be billed seperate

Same happened to me when I went to Cingular. It is funny that these people can not find the $29 plan, even after searching and putting you on hold. Just tell them it is called: BBRYBISUNL

This will "help" them find it. It is all you need if you have any voice plan with them and use BIS.

False. This plan is solely allowable with an accompanying Voice Plan of $34.99 or higher. Therefore, this plan is disallowed for data-only Blackberry use.
