Default Two email icons, BIS and BES

Please Login to Remove!

I'm on a BES server, and also have my gmail account forwarded to the BB.

On my 7100, the gmail and work emails showed up together, interspersed, in a single inbox.

When I got the 8800 yesterday, I set up the gmail account on the BB, and it added a second email icon, one for what I assumed was BES, and one for gmail.

And, yesterday it appeared that work was going to the BES, and gmail to the second, separate, inbox.

But today the gmail is going to both inboxes.

Here's my setup, and maybe lack of smarts caused my problem

BES corporate server. This mail works just fine

On gmail, I set up a filter to forward to my @mycingular.blackberry.net account

On the Cingular BIS site, I set up my gmail credentials

On the phone, I set up a gmail account (I don't mean that I downloaded the gmail software, I mean I just said that I have a personal account)

So, then I figured that I could turn off the gmail filter and that the BIS would query gmail and send the mail to the BB. But when I turned off the filter, no gmail came to the phone

all emails regardless of BES or BIS go to the messages icon. If your carrier is using BIS 2.x you will have separate icons for eash BIS email address, and those messages will also show in the messages icon.

But that doesn't explain why my gmail is showing up in BOTH icons. I only have one BIS email (gmail) and the corporate BES. So, I understand why I have two icons, but I don't know why gmail goes to both

Oh, maybe I need to re-read your post.

So ALL incoming email goes to the icon labelled cingular, and in addition the gmail will go to the second (BIS) account?

Why do I want it twice?

Nothing you can do. All emails BES and BIS accounts will go into the Messages Icon. Say you have a yahoo and gmail account as well besides your BES account? All three will go into your Messages icon. You will also have two other icons a gmail and yahoo. In this example I would hide the gmail and yahoo icons since you are already receiving them in your main message icon.

I like the HIDE idea.

It's not elegant, but it'll keep me from being annoyed everytime I look at the BB

Thanks

You can also set up a filter to only show BES mail in Messages.

i like that idea, because ideally it would be good to have the work and personally stuff appear in separate places.

How do you set up a filter? If you can point me in the direction I'll plug along

I guess the responses above can be misinterpreted but the answer is no.

All messages will always arrive in Messages. BES mail will always arrive in (and only in) Messages.

Hey, This is somewhat off toppic but close...
I have my 8800 set to hide sent messages, but yet anytime I send a message (via Gmail) from the phone or a computer. I get the message in my inbox as it is from me. Its showing set messages anyways I guess!
This is the first BlackBerry I have ever owned so I'm a total noob with em. Altho not stupid with technology. (I work in IT...)

Go into MESSAGE icon
--> menu --> options --> general options --> SMS & Email inboxes set to SEPERATE

It's best to start new topics in new threads.

There's a sticky in the General BlackBerry Discussion forum that directly addresses this.

I don't see this option available on my pearl? Is there a reason for that?
