Default Key Binding/configuration qustion

Is there a way to configure or bind either the side or front convenience key to wok as an escape/cancel button?
Is there a 3rd party app or a few lines of available code that would allow for such a modification.

Default Why a second escape key?

1. ease of use
thumb= wheel
forefinger= cancel

2. from the forums I have been reading, I have come across several people who had problems with the escape button. The problems were that it was either dying or getting "mushy". Not that I am a pessimist, (I hope my BB 8700 works perfectly throughout the length of my service contract ) but if it dies I would like to know if I have a potential backup.....
