Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.02; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

It's working for me without any special hacks…

Question

It keeps telling me to activate on another website. Did you have to do this?

Connect your Blackberry, but don't start Desktop Manager. Then, with your computer, browse to BlackBerry Discover BlackBerry Look on the right side of that page for the Yahoo download. It will automatically discover your Blackberry, and load the application. Same goes for Google Talk...

The program is installed on the device but when I try to sign in, it tells me to go to blackberry.com/go/yahoo to activate my device

Not sure what to tell you. I had that problem with the 8700, but when I got the 8800, that seemed to be resolved. There's a thread about manually installing a service book to get this to work. Here's the link: Using RIM's Yahoo! Messenger Client on Cingular Wireless BlackBerry Handsets

Unhappy Yahoo! Messenger restriction for BlackBerry devices on the Cingular network

I tried also until I found this in the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center:

Cingular customers do not currently have the ability to use the Yahoo! Messenger application. This is by request of Cingular.

I'm a Cingular customer, and it worked for me on initial download.

I found another way to install. Using your device Blackberry Browser (make sure it's the Blackberry browser and not the Internet browser) go to BlackBerry HELP! and choose the Downloads link. Scroll down to Applications and you'll see links for Yahoo Messenger as well as Google Talk.

It needs the Yahoo service book and there is a thread how to add it. Complicated. Mine got added on my 8700 when I used Yahoo Go and it carried over.

I also am having the same issue. I had it working on my 7130 and the 8700. I am guessing that those that had it working on the 8700 and now on the 8800 are windows users...???

When you say windows useres, do you mean we sync with windows, or that we own a windows platform? Because I sync with windows, but I own many macs.

If you had it working on a previous device, just use the switch device feature of DM 4.2
Worked perfect from 7130 --> 8100 and worked again 8100 --> 8800.

Moves the service book over and everything!
Works awesome!!!!
