I recently purchased a blackberry 8700g off ebay to use and because my razr is garbage and I cant make/receive calls with it, i put my sim card in and it says "cingular extend" at the top after i activate wireless but when i go to make a call it instantly makes the annoying "Call failed" beeping noise. What's the problem?

You will most likely need to use a service (which will cost a modest amount of money) to unlock the phone. They will ask you for the phone's IMEI number, and then they will give you an unlock code.

I don't really mess around with my own Blackberry (which is on T-Mobile and locked) because my company owns it, but there might be a way to find a program online that can generate an unlock code, as well. I know that for my personal GSM phones that I've had, I usually didn't have to pay to find an unlock code.

The fact that it says "Cingular extend" and not SIM card rejected or invalid SIM means your BB is unlocked. You may want to check with your provider if your voice plan has any blocks. Also check if you can use any of the *XX numbers to get to customer service, those are usually allowed.

try this
1 go to options

2. go to advanced options

3. go to sim card

4. Type MEPD (not case sensitive) ( you will not see text appear on screen while typing )

5. Does it say Network active? if so your phone is locked
