General Information?
 

Hi guys, I've had a few blackberry's, but I've just upgraded to an 8700c, and I want to finally harness all my phone is capable of. I only have one problem, and one question.
-I cannot get my browser to open! I don't have the icon anywhere.
-I don't know how to put pictures onto my blackberry from my computer, can you guys help me?

I'll probably think of more later.

Pictures? Simply Email yourself some jpgs. Open then as attachments. Save them.



By the way....Welcome. Make sure and get used to using the SEARCH funtion for some of your questions. Many items are answered a lot of times, and then asked over and over again.

Searching will do wonders. I DOES take practice though. The keywords can be hard to find sometimes.

Y'know, I'm new to this forum and what I find more annoying than anything is someone asking a question and then being lectured to search.

Let me quote the first paragraph in the sticky annoucement from Guess and the top of the General 8700 Series Discussion:

There is A LOT of helpful info on this site. That said, I have noticed that there is an element on this site that is not very tolerant of "newbies" asking what they consider questions that can be "easily" found by searching. I am a member of a lot of forums, but some members on this one are, by far, the "least friendly" in terms of helping people with general questions.

Well I am familiar to forums, I've been on them since I was 13, thats going on 8 years now. Its just I can't EVER use a search right.

I haven't set up my enterprise e-mail, since I only have my home's verizon e-mail, and I get all my dodge neon website info sent there, I don't want that on my phone. Is there anyway I can do a file transfer onto my 8700? I have installed the software to backup and restore my blackberry info, so I have all the information from my 7200 on it already.

Well gosh...I guess I should have searched through the stickies before answering any questions. I must now go to my corner of shame.

Regardless of what some of the stickies say, you must understand that those stickies are not always read but the new people. Some people are just looking for a answer quickly. And some of those people won't use the search function. I usually do my best to also answer the question that was brought up and no simply reprimand them.

You will have to send yourself an email to get photos. as for the Icon missing. It may require a call to your carrier to get the internet option turned on or the service book resent.

I would try resending service books first.

I had the same problem on my new 8703e from Telus Mobility, I researched a bit and found that you must register your handset with your network first by going to:

-Options
-Advanced Options
-Host Routing Table

Click on your carriers name and click register.

Now that being said, it worked for me and all my browser/IM icons showed up but no guarantees it will work for you....just hopefully some helpful tips for you...

The service books should push automatically but sometimes they don't or something happens to the service books and they're not pushed correctly. You can use the Host Routing Table method or log into your carrier's BIS site and hit the Resend Service Books button. In some rare cases, you'll need your carrier's data support group do this for you.

It's tricky to maintain a balance to keep the signal/noise ratio just right. There really are a lot of informative resources that do answer many of the common questions and some of them, like the stickies always get overlooked by newbies. It's not surprising to me that certain questions get really old very quickly but insisting on searching doesn't really help but at the same time the newbies do need to figure out how to get to reference sources and use them. I wish that there were better links to blackberryfaq.com because it's definitely very useful for newbies.

Personally, I don't have problems with people who seem to have read up and are still having issues but there are clearly a lot of people who apparently can't be bothered to do their own homework...
