I have just migrated from the 8700 to the 8800 and love the new phone. I do have one question:

How do I change the alert tone for a voice mail. I have all my settings for calendar and phone, etc working perfectly but would like to change the tone that tells me when I have a voice mail. Which one is it?

Try changing the SMS message tone. My voicemail tone is the same as my SMS message tone.

There is no seperate alert for VM. It's the same as SMS Text.

That is what I needed to know. As I never use SMS, changing it is no problem, I just did not know which one it was.

I wish it wouldnt show the alert as SMS.

The way I use the phone I hit a speed dial key to check the voicemail and either save or delete it then go view the missed call in my messages log to make that disappear once I am done i have to then go into SMS and remove that notification as well. If it just showed the onscreen VMI that would be sufficent.

^ Not sure why carriers would have any motivation to develop a different basis for VM notification than SMS.

Remember that non-smartphone units get notifications the same way, so their numbers (by far, the majority) must be included.

FWIW, on GSM phones voice mail alerts are actually delivered to the phone as specially formatted SMS messages... Not to say it wouldn't be easy to treat those messages differently.
