i am having trouble figuring out the exact direction that the SIM card is inserted into the phone. called Cingular but since no one on the floor of the support pen has ever seen one in person. imagine that? shouldnt surprise any Cingular customer..... been on hold for 30 minutes waiting for an answer and i thought this would be less painful.

The tabbed end should be sticking out and the square end goes in first.

See the sticky on the manuals. There is a quick start guide that has SIMs, batteries etc.

There is a picture on the phone itself.

Look out, I got flamed for asking a similar question a couple days ago here! Comforting to know I'm not the only one with what would appear to be a very basic question, but as you're experiencing, having no documentation on SIM insertion in the "get started" guide leaves one guessing on your and my situation. In my case, I mistook the SD slot for the SIM card slot...not my best day, buy hey, it happened!

In either case, sparkomatic got it right in terms of how to put the card in.

I would also add to the above, that the contacts on the SIM card face down when looking at the back of the phone.

There is a diagram/small engraved image next to the SIM slot.
