Please Login to Remove!

I have tried to use the search app the find a phone number in my address book - any trick to this since just putting in the number does not work?

Yea, so you know he number and you don't know the name? Put in your phone dialer, call it and hang up real quick, your phone history will tell you the name it is associated with IF it is truly in your address book...

Question

I had the same problem. Sometimes you might get a call on your land line and your home phone tells you that you received a call from a particular number you don't immediately recognise. If you've got all your contacts' numbers in your BlackBerry address book, you would think you could search that for the number to find out who it was.

That is a good tip, placing the call then hanging up so that it logs the call in the history, and does work in the situation above.

But what if you only know part of the phone number? (Unlikely, I know, but you could be in the situation where you're saying to yourself "I know I had a contact at company XYZ, but I can't remenber his name, just that his phone number ended 5678....") Or maybe you want all the numbers in your address book with a certain area code?

Is there really no way to search on a phone number?

A person at work was reviewing thier bill for personal charges and saw a number on thier BB and tried to search for it and of course could not find it via the search and I was looking to see if there was a good way to do this.

Will try the call and hange up routine to see if that works.

ITs pretty darn strange to me to not be able to search by phone number.

Wirelessly posted (8700g: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

The number MAY not be attached to a contact if the user used the "use once" function. I wish I knew how to search by number also in the search function but haven't been able to make it work, let's see if some else can.

Meanwhile there is always 411.com, reverse phone lookup.

BUMP.

I have the same need. I want to search my Address Book by full or partial numbers and can't find a way! Is there an application out there that will add this functionality? I NEED IT!

As far as I know, still not possible. If you sync with Outlook, you can search there.

Go to the search app. In the text, type in the phone number or partial phone number. Under where to search, choose address book. It will find all matches. Works great!

That works with my 8800 on OS 4.2.
It does not work on my 8700g with OS 4.1
