I'm wondering if others have the same problem.

I have TWO problems -

1. The chrome metal things on the side of the device, when you push it in at certain parts, there is a small amount of play that seems like it doesn't fit correctly. anyone else have these problems?

2. when ever i try to use the key number 5 (or letter D), some times it doesn't register. Every other button registers with ease. Anyone else having this problem?

thanks

I have a small amount of play in the sides of my Pearl. The 5 key might be a warranty issue.

no keypad issues with mine, I do have the sides that go clickity-clack, wonder if i can get a new one for that? (paying full price, makes me want perfect)

I will say that ringer/speaker loudness is tons better than my pearl, and voice quality coming and going is way better than my 8700, I also stay in EDGE with full coverage better than both models as well.

I did have the same issue with my Blackberry 8800 flexing on the sides aswell on the bottem base.
I had called a few Cingular Stores round the area, asking them if they were getting customers having the same issues. In conclusion all the Cingular Stores were consistent, and had informed me to take it back to the store I had purchased the BB. I recieved a new device.

-Currently the new replaced BB 8800 is not flexing anymore, but I believe the real issue thats contributing to the device flexing is due to the battery back cover (make sure there is not dust, nor lint in between the insert)

When I first encountered the issue, I placed my BB (backside) on a warm surface by the sun, which had expanded the plastic slightly enough which fixed the issue. At the time I just wasn't sure if it was the device, so replacing it did fix the issue.

I purchased it from amazon however. Can they send me a new unit so I can still use this in the mean time? I'm also having problems with blackberry.

Thanks for the lengthy reply.

I got one six days ago and it had really bad creaking/squeaking on both chrome sides. I finally when to a store tonight and exchanged it. The new one is much much better. It's only been a few hours, so we have to see if stays the same. But it is definitely much better/tighter than the first one.

can I just bring my phone to a Cingular store even though I ordered through Amazon?

yeah, the sides squeak and the bottom battery door has a lot of play in it.

those problems a lot with the fact that my 5 button doesn't function as it should is reasons for a return I hope.

Warranty coverage should be through Cingular. I'm sure you could do an exchange via Amazon but I bet they won't cross-ship a replacement for you.

I think they're all gonna start to squeek eventually. When I first posted about mine, people replied that they had no problems and then later said their BB's were starting to squeek.

RIM might start correcting the problem but I don't think they've already produced and shipped better units already. Just my thought...

I thought about taking mine back but then my PIN changes again and I might just get another one that squeeks.

You probably DO need to go through Amazon, as rebates (including non-Cingular rebates) are tracked by IMEI and/or PIN. If you exchange the unit at a different source, more than likely Amazon will NOT honor your rebate, as technically, the unit that you bought is no longer under (their) contract.

This is good advice, by buying at amazon's cheaper price you have commited to following their term and conditions that may not be the same as cingular's. At the least call them and get their OK before doing any type of exchange.
