Default SMS problems on 8800

Please Login to Remove!

How embarrasing. Seemingly the simplest of all things, I'm not receiving SMS on my 8800. I have a voice and data plan with Cingular, but that shouldn't matter, should it?

What simple thing am I overlooking?

SMS could be disabled on the account so you won't receive it. Contact Cingular to verify.

There's really nothing to set for SMS on the BB itself. SMS issues like this pretty much need to be resolved with a call to Cingular.

Even the most basic cell phones nowadays allow you to send and receive texts. You don't need a data plan to do so. Heck even pay as you go phones have the option right out of the box. It's likely Cingular has the SMS service turned off with your account for some reason.

Can you send outgoing texts?

The short version of the correct answers given here are:

- Your account may not be provisioned on Cingular correctly...you should call them.

- If you're on a BES, there may be an IT policy that prevents SMS messages.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Go to settings, options, SMS text and make sure that the network to send over is set to GSM.
