Default 8800 OS V 4.2.1.68 (Vodafone UK): Not Available

Please Login to Remove!

As some of you may have read in my previous post; I just obtained an 8800 from Vodafone UK and had an issue with Blackberry Messenger V 4.2.1 that comes installed.

After 2 days of speaking to people across RIM UK, RIM Canada & Vodafone UK, It's painfully obvious that NO ONE has access to the OS to provide as a downloadable file. The Blackberry Technical Support Department @ Vodafone UK also are unable to provide the OS replacement file. From the information they gave me; the only people who have the V 4.2.1.68 OS are testers @ Vodafone Germany - and they're quite hard to get in contact with.

So, after running around like a madman; I've realized that the only option Vodafone UK has is to replace your device in order to reset the factory settings. If any of you get an 8800 and have problems with the default reset; Vodafone UK has to send a replacement model.

The original problem I had was that the Blackberry Messenger installed would only allow you to add contacts by email (you couldn't add contacts by PIN). On the replacement I just received; I can add contacts by PIN; but not by email! But, I only add contacts by PIN; so I've got what I need.

Alas, my 8800 experience so far is right up there with every other Blackberry I've been given - a pain in the ass...

Why not use the O2 .73 version?

When I loaded the OS for Cingular & O2, they would load into the desktop manager; but when I tried to use the application loader to add the OS to the device - the desktop manager said that no installed apps were available for the device...

(and I don't know how to perform the workarounds to get it to install...)

Locate and delete VENDOR.XML on your PC C: drive and restart Desktop Manager. It will load the new OS.
