Default Random black screen/cold resets - please read

Please Login to Remove!

Having searched the forums for a few minutes, I realize there is a fairly widespread, new problem affecting 8xxx series Blackberrys that involves clusters of random resets. I would like to know how widespread this is and if BB is aware. I have found a number of postings that describe the same behavior and have spoken to several people who have experienced it, as well. This seems to be relatively new - perhaps since the beginning of February and I wonder whether it is some new software that Cingular and/or other companies pushed, or some new system problem.

Here is a description of the random reset - the red light comes on, screen goes pitch dark, and the hourglass comes up in a few moments. Once it happens it can recur several times in an hour, or once or twice a day. It seems to go away for a while (maybe after a battery/hard reboot) and come up after a few days- one week.

Everyone seems to think it is their BB, some software they loaded, a loose connection. But reading multiple postings and realizing they are all fairly recent I suspect there is something else going on.

Anybody else have the same issue? Please post.

The only intermittent issue I've had is my BB8700c is it will alert me that their was an uncaught exception with the application BBToday and it has been closed. I cant always reproduce the error... like right now its not doing it.

but as for the error your explaining sounds like your battery contacts arent holding connection correctly or you have a loose solder connection on the phone internally would be my best guess.

I had this same thing happen today. I actually started a thread about it before I found this one. My 8700C is only a little over a month old. I wouldn't think it has loose battery contacts already.

It used to happen to me also. Never found a reason.

I had a user have this issue also on an 8700. Reloaded the OS and that didn't help; replaced device and that didn't help. Finally assigned a new SIM card and the problem went away.

I have had to replace several SIMs lately -- wonder if that is where the issue lies...
