Is there a way to turn off the blackberry 8700 from receiving emails and not the phone. WHen I turn the wireless option of it turns the phone off as well.

I have a limited data plan and while I am work during the day, I get my emails on my laptop.

Thanks

Yes there is...some handheld operating systems for the 8700 i.e .309 allow you to disable data services so that you can use it as a phone only. I've had this working for me for over 4 months now without a single problem with the ability to switch on data services to receive my emails whenever I wish. Once installed the option is in Options/Network.

Use desktop manager to not forward when connected to the PC. Under redirection settings. Use it all the time, not due to data plans but email management.

But no matter, as long as the mail is left on your server, you will get it. It will all be forwarded as soon as you change the settings back.

Not if you disable mail forwarding either in DM (only if you're on BES) or via your carrier's BIS site (obviously only for accounts pushed via BIS). Just set the default filters to not forward.

Turning wireless on and off means that you'll get queued mail when you turn wireless back on. I've never used or even recall having the data on/off feature on my BB's but I suspect that it behaves the same as wireless on/off.

If you're on BES you can toggle the mail delivery option while connected via USB (again, in DM) and that will prevent you from receiving mail while your BB's connected.

Yes the data on/off effectively disables all data services but still allows for calls/sms i.e regular gsm use only. The Telstra .309 rom has this option aswell as the unnofficial beta 4.2. As soon as the data services are turned back on emails will follow from queue.

How about going to "Profiles" and choosing "Phone Only". Works for me. If you don't see this, then try updating your software to the latest version. I'm currently running v4.1.0.377 (Platform 2.1.0.39) on my 7130g.

Peace,

Jason

That won't prevent the BB from still receiving emails. Just makes it so you don't receive a notification.

Ahhhh. I misunderstood. The OP wanted no email pushed at all while still being able to use the phone. With phone only, the email is still pushed to the BB, just without notification.

Peace,

Jason
