Question Cingular Unlocking

Please Login to Remove!

I am out of contract with Cingular so I called them to ask them to unlock my 8700c since I am out of contract and going to be traveling internationally in June. They said "OK!" and I got an e-mail from them a few days later saying my ticket had been resolved.

Me being me, I called to confirm all the details anyway because I never trust them. Sure enough, the ticket had been "resolved" because they said my IMEI number was not on file with them so the phone might already be unlocked. I tested this with a friend's T-Mobile SIM card and the phone said "Invalid SIM" so I am assuming it is, in fact, locked. I called Cingular back and they said again that they do not have my IMEI number on file and therefore do not have my unlock code.

How is this possible? If it IS locked to Cingular I would assume they must have the unlock code, right? What other options do I have? I would really like to get this phone unlocked before I travel to Europe.

hey, to see if you phone is actually unlocked, do this:
1. On the Home screen, click the Tools icon. The Options screen appears.
2. In the tools screen, select the Settings icon.
3. Scroll to SIM Card and select it. You should see the phone number and the SIM ID number.
4. Type 'mepd' to display the first five levels of SIM locking. T-Mobile uses network locking so the Network should display Active. All other states should display Disabled

And read through this thread (and other threads, I searched for "lock setting" using the search button at the top of this page ) for more info...

I am on Cingular. This is what my phone says.
SIM: Disabled
Network: Active
Network Subset: Disabled
Service Provider: Disabled
Corporate: Disabled

So from this I guess it is locked to Cingular? If this is the case, am I wrong in assuming that there must be a way for Cingular to obtain the unlock code? They just kept telling me that they didn't have my IMEI number in their database and they had no other options.
