Wirelessly posted (9900: BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

My advice is skip them all. Get a 8 series. Differences is more in keyboards and OS than in model numbers.

nextel does not support that model.
they only support the 7520 and the 7100.

And the only 7100 model you can get is the i.
The others are for different carriers. If you have to stick with Nextel, that's your choice..

Default ok..

the reason i was thinking of going to the 7100i is that i currently use a BB7520 on nextel, but i was thinking that the 7100i is a little smaller footprint and it also has text messaging.

any other things you can think of that i might be gaining or losing by going from a 7520 to a 7100i ?

thanks for your input guys and gals.

gaining-jvm 102 error....99% native to the 7100i.....there are so many of these so-called REFURBISHED 7100i's that had jvm 102 errors out there that i would say if you ever had a 7100i replaced you have a 50/50 chance of getting one that throws this error. tech support will not ts this issue, it is immediate take to s&r

losing-i assume that you knew that the 7520 also has a mms capability?
(couldn't tell by your comment there so if you did, sorry)
if not, you need to have 4.1 software AND a soc called an MMS WIRELESS PORTAL (no charge) added onto your bb acct. once thiis change is reflected on your 7520 it gives you a 'compose mms' option just like real life in your messages icon.

keep the 7520 and update to mms if you havent already....a full keyboard is a terrible thing to waste.

For whatever it's worth I switched from the 7100i to the 7520. The 7520 seems more stable, is built much better, gets better reception, has the PTT button on top (which I like), has shortcuts and the full keyboard is much easier to use. I love my 7520.

Multimedia Messaging Service - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not sure if Nextel handles MMS.

kevinrea-
mms is 10 digit messaging or simply 'text messaging'. messages/compose mms/ type in a persons 10 digit ptn and a message and hit 'send'

mms is native to the 7100i but the 7520 was the transitional model when mms first became available, so in order to get the 7520 to compose mms you need to have:

mms wireless portal on your bb acct (free)
4.1 software on your 7520

this allows the 'compose mms' option to be on the 7520.

walt-
7520 is a workhorse and will be here long into the next decade. no nonsense and dependable.

You got that right about the 7520 being a workhorse. The 7100i has a nice display but seems like a toy compared to the 7520,
