Exclamation 8700 email fatality --need resuscitation!

I've lurked on this site for awhile now and just started participating recently.
I have been impressed with the quality of information. I have faith that some one out there has the solution to my dilemma.

Equipment: Blackberry 8700c (Cingular)

Issue #1: Handheld will not sync with Desktop Manager (DM). DM sees BB as connected, but will not sync--not even time. Returns a 'Failed to connect to the device. Please make sure that the device is properly connected and try agian.' The DM does show a 'connected' condition in the status bar.

Issue #2: Can not compose email on handheld. Returns an 'Uncaugtexception:java.language.NullPointerExcepti on' error dialog.

Solutions Tried to Date: I have uninstalled DM and re-installed various versions from 3.6 through 4.2 SP1. I receive different wording on the 'device did not connect', but the effect is the same--No Sync.
On the BB side, I have wiped the OS and re-installed both 4.1.0rel175 and 4.1.0rel529 and I still receive the NullPointerException.

Is this a single issue, or two seperate issues?

My BB is an integral part of how I do my business--can anyone help me get the device to sync and S/R email again?

(Do i have to change my signature? LOL)

The Blackberry is resuscitated!

I followed some advice from the developer forum (thankyou, danbra) which was to connect the device without the power cell and then insert the power cell after opening app loader.

I also upgraded the hand held to 4.2 software.

All is well now.

I am happy...Zen, even!

(and my signature stays the same)
