Default Radio turns off by itself....

Please Login to Remove!

My coworkers and I have company provided Cingular 8700's. We all see the radio turn off on its own every so often. I actually saw it happen while I was holding the handset in my hand and looking at the screen.

It's disconcerting that you can think you're online for phone calls, email, etc, and you're not. Does anyone have any idea why this happens?

The radio will shut off when the battery is too low to support it.
What's the battry meter say when this occurs?
Does it happen to every Blackberry in your environment, or just some?

It happens when the battery(s) are fully charged. And when the radio is turned back on, it stays back on.

I work with 3 other people who see the same problem. It's very occassional but still worrisome.

I haven't talked to our IT department yet to see if they know of the problem. I thought I'd inquire here first.

Mine shut off today after about 10 minutes of "searching for network", I believe that it is to save battery

Same here, if my phone is in a place where it continuously remains on "searching for signal", after a while it will turn off.

I don't think my 8700's radio turns off when it can't find a signal for a length of time. I'll have to try it next time I'm in a place where there is no signal.

However, in the cases I'm talking about in my original post, there was definitely plenty of signal.

I am having the same problem. I checked my 8700c last night before I went to bed, and it had a full signal and plenty of battery power. When I woke up this morning, the radio had shut itself off. This is now happening nearly every night.

FWIW, the problem I was having described in my original post disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared. My 8700's radio hasn't shut itself off in a couple of months.

But it never happened as often or repeatedly as yours is, djhobbes. Have you check Options > Auto On/Off to make sure you don't have that feature enabled?

That was exactly the first thing I checked, but that setting is off.

It is a little disheartening that I look at my Berry in the morning and see "off" where the signal strength should be. Battery is full strength (in fact, the night before, it turned off while I was charging it overnight).

I have seen that issue also with my 8700c also. I just do and it comes backup no problems. Mine does this like once every week or two.

Just like a computer needs to be restarted every once in awhile.

Default why is power not an option ?

I would like to reopen this thread. The fact that the blackberry shuts its radio off is a very annoying thing as pointed out the originator of this thread. However it pales in comparaison to the fact that once you connect power to the blackberry, it DOES NOT let you turn the radio on, until the battery is charged for at least one half hour!

This is how it goes: I am in the middle of a phone conversation in my car, blackberry beeps, than radio goes off. Now I connect it to the 12v charger, but the device remains off because "battery charge is too low".

Can we at least change that? Why would it not allow me to use the phone when connected - that's ridiculous.

Yeah, would be nice if that was changed.

I've had my 8100 do this when fully charged. I set it down (plenty of signal) only to pick it up a few minutes later to find the wireless off. Doesn't happen often but occasionally.
