Default noob question

Please Login to Remove!

I've had the 8700c for around two weeks now, was able to get cingular to replace my pos treo. I did a search for the problem i find myself in, but couldn't find any definite answers.

My problem is that i want to know if it's possible to make my phone send and receive pictures/videos via text messaging? (this is important in my daily routine, don't ask)

I came across a couple of things during my search, one of them was updating to the 4.2 software, which i think might help my cause, and the other thing i came across was express messaging (http://www.cingular.com/business/xpress_messaging), not really sure if that helps me or not.

Any help would be great,
Thanks

-the noob

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

You can certainly use MMS messages, just make sure you are enabled for MMS with Cingular and be aware of any charges associated with it.
Good luck and and welcome to the Forums.

thanks for the welcome JSanders, when i spoke to cingular/at&t to make sure i was enabled for MMS they first told me i was, and then they told me my phone didn't have the capability for MMS, so it left me a bit confused. Also i have asked some friends to send me pictures, and have yet to receive any of them.

Try a hard reboot (pull battery for 30 sec)

If that does not work then try sending yourself a MMS

If that does not work try resending the service books (from the BIS site or have Cingular resend them)..

If all of the above does not work then you will need to call them back as it's an issue on their end or with provisioning on your account

Go to your Messages folder, click and do you have the option to Compose MMS? (You should have Compose Email, Compose PIN, Compose SMS, Compose MMS).

Did you try my steps above??

If so then it's a service book issue or a provisioning isue...

You can either log into the BIS from Cingular website OR call customer service and have tham make sure you are active for MMS, then have them send the service books to the device

Check here:

Option >> Advanced Options >> Service Books

Do you see anything related to MMS?

If not call them back, make sure MMS is active and tell then to resend service books

Went into service books, and saw nothing related to MMS. Also when you say log into the BIS and send myself the service books, does that mean logging onto mycingular.blacberry.com, and sending the service books from there?

Well, I *thought* I had read where Cingular fixed the MMS for the 8700c... But everything I have read so far says it still is a NO GO for the 8700c....

You might not be able to MMS with the 8700c, it apears that Cingular still has it disabled for that device....

You can try the service books! It can't hurt..... yes log into your mycingular account.. You should see something like Set Up BlackBerry Internet Email.... Then a link to resend service books...

Sorry for the confusion as I thought I had read where it was working for the 8700c, but it looks like they still have is diabaled for that device...
