Hi,
I am new here.
I have cingular normal cell phone service and yesterday I just received used BB-8700 from ebay. I tried to insert my working sim card into BB and it says "no service". I am confused. i thought it should at least able to use the phone function without emails. Please advise and any answers are welcome.
Thanks.

The person you purchased it from might need to remove the IMEI and PIN from their account before you can use it...

yes you can, but if he / she still has the device *locked* into an account then you will not be able to use the device until it is removed from the other account...

You can try going to Options >> Advanced Options >> Host Routing Table and select Register Now

Which version of 8700 is it? Is it a Cingular branded 8700? If it is a T-Mobile 8700g, then it would have to be unlocked before you can use it on Cingular. In addition, you will need a BB dataplan for Internet and email.

You will also need to talk to Cingular and get the BB provisioned properly. A BB is not a regular cell phone.

Good advice Dubdub... *but* if it was locked to a different carrier it would say 'invalid sim'

Lunkhead,

Thanks for your help. I tried your advise but did not work.

You can try going to Options >> Advanced Options >> Host Routing Table and select Register Now[/quote]

I don't see any bar from antenna and it shows cross sign although I turned on the wireless. Is Cingular strictly required to subscribe BB service in order to get signal? I thought we can use as phone and PDA with normal phone services? ( I moved from tmo and tmo BB are working with normal phone services)
