Question 4.2 voice notes icon missing

Please Login to Remove!

i upgraded my 8700c to the 4.2 release and can not find the voice notes icon on the home screen... i see many others have the same problem, but not resolution other than verifying that the icon is not hidden.

anyone fixed theirs yet?

I hope you get an answer, as I'm looking for it too.

I can see the net_rim_bb_voicenotes.cod file is loaded on my 8700 by looking in the details of the core applications, but a "voice notes" icon does not show. Also, in looking at the blackberry.alx file, I notice that the following lines are under the Verizon filesets, but not the other carriers.

<fileset VoiceNotes="True">
<files>
net_rim_bb_voicenotes.cod
</files>
</fileset>

I think it's dependent on mms service books, since it seems to be only Cingular users with problems.

I have this service book: "MMS Client [MMS]". Not sure if this is the same thing.

My theory is that b/c Cingular customers have the PTT functionality available that service overrides the Voice Notes functionality. If you will notice it is all Cingular customers that do not have the voice notes app rather we all have PTT.

My $.02 but pretty confident that it is right.

PPT is another service that you have to buy additionally. I don't think it should replace voice notes.

Voice notes is in Blackberry Messenger. When you start a conversation in the messenger, it then gives you an option to "send voice note"

You are correct that it is a separate service to purchase. However users on other networks are stating that they have an application native to the home ribbon that allows them to make these notes.

As indicated by enviroman this is available in BB messenger however I found it odd that the Cingular/AT&T user base doesn't have the application on their homescreen. Hence my association w/the PTT application that we do have that other carrier's users do not have.

Once again just my $.02 . . . . any additional thoughts/reasons etc?

I have seen screen shots of themes with an icon that looks like a microphone over a notepad. Other (non cingular) users have stated they have a voice note icon on the main screen. Seems like there would be away for the cingular users to enable this function.

As someone said earlier, I think it IS related to MMS. I know this is about the Pearl, but its prob the same for the 8700 on 4.2

"Voice Notes-This is a bundled software that comes together with the Pearl, but allows user to send their recordings as MMS to other phone numbers. The software is very basic in functionality and is lacking many features normally a professional like me would expect to have."

some say yes, some say no... alot of users on the internet are frustrated about it... some also say that if you add the service to your plan and call customer service it will show up... other nay that... shurgs..

id give up Push-to-talk as i have no one to PTT but lots of people to MMS.... but then again, what do you expect from the most old school corporatized cellular company
