I love my Pearl except for the lack of QWERTY keyboard. Now the 8800 is out for T-Mobile (which is my carrier). I hear that the 83xx will be out in the next few weeks and will give my wifi and maybe GPS. Don't need the GPS, but I don't understand the big advantage of wifi. If I am already getting all my mail through the BB, what are the advantages/uses of wifi?

WIFI will give you a much faster internet connection than a data service on your phone. One thing you need to be aware of is there needs to be a wifi signal available, like at your home or office. I have an 8800, so I really can’t say for sure, but my experiences with wifi has been very unsatisfying due to the fact that it eats cell batteries for breakfast.

If you are a customize freak you will also loose the ability to download themes. Currently I have yet to find themes that will “Honestly” work with the 8800 and though I have been able to get 8100 themes going my BB will start to work erratically.

I guess a lot of it comes down to the QWERTY keyboard and size factor. I really like the 8100 but I NEED a QWERTY so the 8800 was the device to win over.

i have both the 8100 and the 8800.
the pearl is almost always on top of the dresser.
I prefer the 8800 because it is easier to use (type and read)
I also like the built in GPS in case i have to go somewhere without directions.

Why do people want WiFi so badly on these things? At EDGE or 1xRTT speeds, the device is barely able to render the pages fast enough to keep up with the download speeds, if at all (especially on pages with javascript)...so WiFi offers no advantage when web browsing.

So what's the point? Streaming? What can you stream? Downloading large files? Sending video? (Actually, does the BB even take videos?) ...

Other than T-Mobile@home, I don't see how WiFi is useful at all, especially considering how fast it eats batteries (like someone already pointed out).

8100 look smart but if you want full use of a BB i'd go for 8800 over anything else. Don't really see the need for WIFI. as you normally would have a laptop or desktop at home or in office with better options to view ex internetpages

as others here hooked on my 8800

Puh-leez... you can get "full use" out of any BB model. It's a matter of personal preference. Pick the one you prefer. If you can truly state a case to support the "full use" nonsense then by all means post it. Just because you can't use or stand SureType doesn't mean that other's can't (and I'm not a fan of SureType).

thats why tekeshi is my faovorite around here, say it like it is...

agree 100%, plenty of my friends/coworkers love their pearls and would not go to any qwerty, and i'm happy with mine, all personal preference.
