Default Internet browser icon on 8707g

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have already searched a lot about this issue, I found several instructions and I have already tryed all of them without success.
The fact is that I still don't have a internet browser icon on my brand new blackberry 8707g (my first blackberry).
I called to my Portuguese carrier (TMN), but no one knows how to solve this problem (some of them doesn't even know that TMN is selling blackberry 8707g!).

Is it possible do download a full HTML internet browser to my PC and install in on the 8707g?

Thank you for your help!

I've read that folks with the Vodafone-flavoured version of your handset have had success with Opera. You can read that thread here.

Seems strange to me that RIM wouldn't put their own browser on their first 3G product...

sobral, do you have a Blackberry Data Plan with your carrier? If not, you must have that to get the internet browser.

Try this--pull the battery on the BB and let it reboot. Is is there?

--Could be hidden... press ALT - CLICK and SHOW ALL. Do you see the browser now?

--Go to Options > Advanced > Service Books. Do you see a Service Book named "Blackberry Internet Browsing Service" ?

--Call your carrier and ask them to RESEND your SERVICE BOOKS.

Thank you for your suggestions!

Unfortunately, I have a data plan with my carrier and I have all the icons in the screen.
When I go to options => advanced options => browser, the message I see is "default browser configuration".

When I was searching for a answer, I found a post that give really reasons to worry about:
8707G + O2 (UK) = total disaster - RIM Blackberry Forums - Pinstack.com

"O2 confirmed that the lack of a functioning browser on the 8707g was a KNOWN fault and that though it is there on the 8707g, they can't get it to talk to their network. They and RIM are apparently working on it, but at the moment there was NO WAY of getting the browser to work on the 8707g. Gobsmacked. The fix could be days, weeks or months"

If this is true in UK, probably I have the same problem with my carrier in Portugal.

It's my first BB, it seems i great device, but... i'm going to turn back to my Nokia N73.

Thanks again!

Have you tried loading Opera Mini on your BB...

You'll probably want the PC download version
http://www.operamini.com/download/

Although, I would suggest for the ease, trying the SMS link or WAP download, much easier.

ALSO... press ALT - ESCAPE. Scroll through the applications present by holding down the ALT key and clicking ESCAPE... do you see your browser icon, can you go to it there?

Sanders!

I presses ALT+ESCAPE and, in fact, i saw the browser icon!
When I pressed the icon, i see the message "You defice does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book Entries. PLease contact your service provider to enable the Browser on your device".

I'll try again to solve this problem with my service provider, but my last try wasn't successfull. There's a difference: now I know a little more about what I am talking about.

Thank you very much!

You can try two things:
Go to Options/Advanced Options/Host Routing Table/Click the thumbwheel/ and select Register.
Or log into your BIS account and Resend Service Books.

You carrier needs to escalate the matter to RIM if they don't know what to do. They should at least know to do that much... You definitely need the service books for the browser to work.

Opera Mini might be worth a shot but you'd have to install it via your PC.

Opera would just be a work around. There's no reason the service reps wouldn't know what the service books are. Work on resending the service books first. If for some reason that doesn't work, you could settle for Opera Mini.
