Unhappy Unable to transfer address book to 8800 via Bluetooth

Please Login to Remove!

Hello.

i am moving from a Sony Ericsson P990i.
I am trying to transfer my extensive address book from the P990i to the Blackberry using Bluetooth.

When I pair the devices and select Send Contact using Bluetooth on the P990i, it tries to connect and the connection fails.

If I select Transfer Address book on the Blackberry, the P990i correctly receives the address book.

If I go to Media on the blackberry and select Receive Via Bluetooth and I try to transfer the contact the Blackberry receives it and stores it somewhere successfully, but it does NOT go into my Address Book.

How do you get the blackberry to accept Bluetooth Address book contacts?

Default There was no way to do this with a blackberry.

The Blackberry is extremely limited in it's most basic features.

You cannot tag several address book entries to delete, you can't tag several Text Messages to delete either.

You can only transfer Address Book entries to a phone which has a Bluetooth profile similar to a Car HandsFree system.

That means you cannot even transfer address books from one blackberry to another.

You need to utilise the Sony Software and the Blackberry software.

Synchronise the Sony phone with a Microsoft Outlook Address book.
Then synchronise the Blackberry with the same Outlook Address book.

This is what I had to do.

I ran into the problem again when someone moved from a Pearl to a 8800. Again they could not easily transfer the entire Pearl address book without passing through the Computer.

I understand that the blackberry is a 'business' phone and the software is important, but the number of usability restrictions on what can be done with the phone just as a phone is annoying.

Nokia Smartphones, HTC phones, Sony Ericsson smartphones all have models which use the Blackberry Connect services and these phones all seem to offer more basic usability (Tag and delete messages or tag and transfer messages etc. for example)features than the Blackberry.

RIM's in the middle of reconciling its traditional security concerns with consumer features that are in demand (including bluetooth support). Believe me, it's a lot better than it was in the past.

It's pretty much a known matter than transfers between devices really need to take place with a PC with Desktop Manager. Ideally, DM 4.2 with the switch device wizard.

How is it that...I can transfer out the 8800 contacts & not receive any from other devices....

Is using the desktop via outlook the best way of getting all the contacts into my 8800 ?
