I have an 7290 with Vodafone 4.0.0.198 handheld software and the 4.0.0.30 desktop manager.

I´ve tried a lot but didn´t manage to get the handheld detected by the bb desktop manager.

Perhaps these infos might help diagnose my problem:
1) Hardware: IBM Thinkpad T41p
2) OS: Windows XP Pro SP2
3) Handheld is detected properly by the thinkpad but NOT by the bb desktop software
4) Thinkpad device manager tells me that RIM handheld is working properly
5) allready got a new IBM motherboard
6) Handheld is detected properly on other Laptops with BB software
7) Other USB devices are all working properly (e.g. Microsoft Intellipoint Mouse)

Be sure to set the connection in the Desktop Manager.
OPTIONS -> CONNECTION SETTINGS and then set it to USB. See the attachment.

yes - sure i allready tried the connection settings as described. but unfortunately the problem seems to be some more complicated.

Uninstall the DM software - there is a RIM support notice entitled "How to do a clean uninstall" or something like that. Involved getting rid of the registry keys and any leftover files.

Try re-installing the latest version of DM (4.0.0.33) from the RIM web site. See if that helps.

I've seen this once or twice before (on Thinkpads also) and it just takes time... Sorry

use device manager to select each usb root hub and choose properties then u will see power management

uncheck the box for allow the pc to turn off this device to save power
do this for each usb root hub

also use application loader... app loader will pick up the blackberry usually when desktop software does not ... you may want to ensure that your using the latest software version 4.xxxxx from your carrier and use desktop manager 4 as well

Do you have any other device software or active USB programs running. You may have to remove/disable them.

also are you using a docking station or port replicator?? plug the bb directly to the laptops usb port... if all else fails use application loader to load the software again.. application loader will definitely pick up the device if windows says rim handheld is working fine

Try disabling the RIM Virtual Com Port under Com ports in Device Manager, that usually sorts out the problem for me.

Do you have your BES entry input correctly? Make sure you have your full BES name and not just the server name. I had to do this to get a user's device to connect to the desktop manager last week. I had only put in the server name and the device wasn't being found by the software but the machine was detecting since I could here the sound when I connected or disconnected it. Once I put in the full name it connected to the DM without a problem.

sounds interesting. but what is the BES entry and where do i have to fill in?

the app loader only offers me com ports and no usb. but anyway: it does not pick up the handheld but just keeps running without a result...
