Default Advice on Buying a Blackberry needed please

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Everyone,

I am in the UK and am looking at buying a Blackberry. I think that the 7100x is for me as supplied by O2 buy I have a few questions and would be grateful if anyone could help answer them:

1. Will I be able to open attachments that I receive via email? If Yes, what file types can it handle and can I save these and then sync them with my pc later?

2. Will I be able to use the IM programs available to logon to MSN and leave it running in the background?

3. Are there any possibilities of GPS using the Blackberry?

Many Thanks,
Abbos

Abbos. The 7100 is a nice device.
Answers to your questions:
1. Yes, you should be able to open .doc, .xls, .pdf (txt only), .txt, .ppt (txt only), and with 4.0 .jpg, .gif, .tiff, .bmp.
2. Yes, the 7100 comes with an IM client that runs in the background. There are also some very good 3rd party apps for this as well like Verichat.
3. Nextel offers GPS out of the box. With the other devices, I believe there are a few 3rd party apps/peripheals that allow that.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So with regard to opening .jpg etc I am not restricted by the service provider but really just by the firmware on the phone?

Does the 7100 come with v4.0 or would I need to upgrade it myself? If I need to upgrade it, is it simple or would I need to buy extra hardware?

Thanks,
