Question Using 7100t on non-TMobile carriers

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I have been using 7100t with T-Mobile, but now want to switch the carrier as I will be working in India for next 9 months. The carrier there(Airtel) is telling me that they do not support 7100t. They only support 72xx and 77xx.

When I bought the device I was told it is quad-band and will work with BlackBerry Services on other GPRS providing carriers.

Did someone try 7100t on other carriers? May be on Cingular/AT&T?

Thanks,
Abby

It will work. Just make sure it is unlocked when you try to switch it over. Call TMobile to get the unlock code.

yeah dude you'll have no problem getting the code from T mobile, just call them up and ask to get the phone get it unlocked, it will take about 24 hours and the code will be emailed to you.............then enter it into the phone, be sure to read all the instuctions in the email before entering the code, im going to Turkey in july and got mine unlocked for the same reason you are....
good luck man....... have fun in India

neekolas and bfrye,

Thank you for your replies. I unlocked the phone using the instructions from the T-Mobile.

But the carrier in India (AirTel) is refusing to provision the phone for BlackBerry Services. They told that I will have to buy a new BB device at ridicules price (about $500 for 62xx device, $700 for 72xx) with their service plan.

I contacted RIM but they told me that they cannot help me. I need to work with AirTel.

Also, I cannot use T-Mobile offered roaming service in India as it is $2.99/KB for data.

Why not just tell them you have a 72xx handheld?

The T-Mo rate you cite is not correct. TMo charges $2.99 a minute for VOICE calls, but only 1.5 cents/KB for data. That's not so bad if all you get is e-mail or, better yet, e-mail headers. Just stay off the Internet and you should be ok.

Map, where do you select e-mail headers on the 7100?

You have to go into the BlackBerry Web Client online (this assumes you are using BWC and not BES). Go to filters the click the link to Forward Messages to Handheld. There you will see the option to send only the header. I do not think you can configure this on your own if you are using BES - you probably have to talk to your administrator and get them to configure it for while you are out of the country. Anyone out there with comments on BES Header-Only forwarding?
