Default VZW 8830 Battery = Garbage

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, lets hear it, who else's battery on their fresh new 8830 sucks? Mine is a total zero in comparison to my 8703e, which lasted all day and then some with heavy bluetooth usage (connected to my car all day) and wuite a few e-mails. So far I'm loving the 8830 but the battery is subpar....

I hear that. I can't make it through an entire day without charging it. PLUS, when the batt gets below 20% it starts losing signal, and showing x1... horrible.

My battery has been fine so far with and without Bluetooth... no different than my 8703e really. -Pk

I think this a common issue with like all 8800's. Cause I had the same issue the first couple days I owned mine, but now I can use it a whole day with talking, data and texting and email and it gets down to about 75 - 80%. I think the blackberry and battery need some time to get used to each other so it can properly manage its life span.

My battery life is great - much better than the 7130e. I haven't charged my 8830 since Friday morning and it still has 65% battery.

Can't speak for the 8830, but on my Tmo 8800, I've not charged my battery since Thursday and my logged talk time has been over 3 hours since then. That on top of Bluetooth being constantly on, downloading a bunch of stuff (themes, etc) from this and other websites and I've watched one entire DVD ripped movie.

You didn't mention it, but what's your EVDO usage been like? Heavy? EVDO is a HUGE battery drain for me on my Verizon 640 aircard when I use it on my PC.

That's because it's a CDMA device. CDMA devices always have lower battery life than their GSM counterparts. My 7130e was much worse than any of the GSM devices I've owned.

My 8800c lasts anywhere from 3-5 days with heavy e-mail, phone and Internet usage. That doesn't even get it into the red.

Now, having said that, I don't use Bluetooth at all.

I have not charged mine since yesterday around 5AM and it's at about 40% left. I do heavy email on it, google chat, and an hour or so of talking time. Not bad, pretty impressed, as on my Q I had to charge it nightly (and that was without even using any email or data services...).

That's what i was thinking. I used mine a heck of a lot yesterday and don't think I will use it that much again for a while unless I get another new program for it . I kept google chat on it the entire day with about 100-200 emails and the talk time. Not bad for a battery IMO.

What's even nicer, is I dont have to buy any chargers / car chargers. My motorola chargers fit and are the same exact voltage

I would agree with most of you, but my vzw 8703 was excellent, battery lasted days with heavy usage. Yesterday i used the phone like i normally would and it seemed better, maybe im getting used to it, but it does seem to go down a little faster than my 8703 but then kinda of planes out....

Doesn't this phone have a lot more multimedia features and things that would generally drain a battery faster?

I've had my 8830 since last Friday morning and so far the battery life has been pretty terrible. Charged it all last night and left the house at 7 this morning and its already down to about 60% with little use as I was in a meeting until about 30 minutes ago which is absurd.

Wow, if what you're saying is true then you should bring it to a verizon store and get a battery replacement. Check to see if you have a ton of programs going on in the background, o ryou can always do the famous battery reboot?

My 8800T lasts two days with bluetooth, heavy data, voice, and and 2 hour a day music usage.

Today is my first full day with the 8830. Last night I gave it a full charge and I"ve been documenting my use today. I'm a very heavy user and not too pleased with this battery, i may have to go back to my 8703 only because of this battery.

%battery @ time

100 @ 530
90 @ 643
85 @ 745
80 @ 823
75 @ 826
70 @ 840

60 @ 954
55 @ 1017
50 @ 1030
45 @ 1038
40 @ 1123

there's no way i'm making it to 3:00, and I need it to go at least till 7. I always have a charger nearby, in my truck/office, whatever, but hate to have to rely on that.

Holy crap.. what is your Heavy usage consist of? I stay logged into gmailchat / get about 200+ emails or so a day.. keep bluetooth on. No BES server though. Not sure what else to say.

Default Signal Strength

Let's not forget the vagaries of signal strength and how they can affect battery life. If I'm in an area with poor signal and without any usage whatsoever I can expect my 8703e battery to plummet within hours, faster with some usage. With a strong signal, I can use it all day.

Does anyone have any experience with the battery life of the 8830 in a major urban area with a consistently strong signal?
