I have a 7290 from Cingular that I have been having trouble with for several months. Sporadically, when using the phone, the person I am calling cannot hear me. I can still hear them but I cannot be heard. This usually happens in the middle of a call (after 2 or 3 minutes).. Some phone calls are perfectly fine but others have this problem. There seems to be no pattern as to when this problem presents itself. I called Cingular and they were no help. My corporate help desk gave me a new 7290 a few weeks ago, but I have the same problem. I guess I can switch to a different model (like the 7250) but I would lose the international access - which I need.. Anyone else having this issue?? Any help would be appreciated..

You know, sometimes when there are phone problems, it is not always on your side. There are times when I have a FULL signal and I am in the middle of a sentence and the line will just drop. We really never know what side it is on. The person you are talking to could be driving through a bad section (Dead Spot) and all of a sudden the connection will die.

I have expereinced the same issue you are talking about when my business partner and we are both on AT&T. This happens quite a bit actually. It can be quite frustrating at times because it will usually take a 2-3 minutes before he calls back. I know AT&T is having some issues with the merger of Cingular but they will never admit to it. See, when AT&T was it's own, I never had issues like this. Just my $0.02 worth.

It doesn't seem to be a signal thing because I can still hear the person on the other end perfectly clear.. I never had this problem with my last bb - which was a 6710 I think..

Yeah, I have the same issue sometimes, I can hear the other person saying "Hello Hello", I can hear him but he can't hear me. I do not know why it does that but it can be very frustrating. The person on the other end, who is their provider?

A coworker of mine had that problem with his Cingular 7290 within one month of buying it. He called the dealer that he bought it from and they said exchanged it. He hasn't had that problem since (2 months later).

Only 2 things I can think of are...

1. Try different OS revision on the handheld.

2. Make sure you are not clogging, blocking or spitting into the tiny little hole where the mic is on the handheld. Kinda gross to think about, but spit happens.

I have the same problem. (callers can not hear me, but I can hear them). I am on my third 7290. The first one had this problem, the second one would reset itself during phone calls and now this one is doing the same as the first!! HELP!!

I know this sounds silly, but you guys aren't hitting the mute button by accident are you? I know it makes a beep and the display shows the mic with a red circle and slash around it, so it should be obvious if you are hitting it, but I suppose it could be missed.

The only reason I mention it is because I've hit the button accidentally before and had to look at the screen to realize it. If you're using a wireless headset and don't take the phone from the holster it would be less than obvious.

These things are wireless and though reliable can experience a multitude issues causing the problem you describe. Certainly the handset could be an issue. The more likely cause is a network problem. The signal strength meter or how may bars you have is almost no value. Without knowing the SQE (signal quality) saying I have full bars is mostly meaningless. You can have "full bars" and get a horrendous call if that signal is riddled with multipath interference which can be quite common in urban settings. Hearing the other end of the call perfectly clear makes sense... the downlink signal from the network is much greater than the uplink (from your phone). Downlink signals, because of there signal to noise ratio could easily override some interference problems. Not so easy from your 600mw handset.

Now in terms of OS on the handset it can certainly create these issues as well. The above scenario I descibe coupled with a marginal handset (OS issue or otherwise) can really wreak havoc.
