Unhappy What do you give up with 7290 vs. 7100?

Please Login to Remove!

I have read ALL of the many posts on personal preference between 7100 and 7290 - my goal with this post is to get some feedback on my situation and see some thoughts 7290 users -

Yes - 7100 form factor is great when looking for a phone-like BB, but the 7290 is not that much bigger. What I have noticed while using a 7100 is that it also acts much more like a phone. I could care less about ring tones, but the software acts very naturally when a call comes in, whether I want to accept the call, etc.

With the 7290 - as a phone, does it "feel" like you are using a phone when calls come in or more like a PDA that rings? I really like the full keyboard, but fear that I will hate it as a phone.

Verizon has told me I could come back to them and they would give me a great deal on the 7250 - I just can't decide what I would be giving up (besides the candy bar shape and the brighter indoor screen) by going to the 7250.

For me, the 7290 just didn't feel right next to my ear as a phone. But at the end of the day, they are the same thing except for the lack of a speaker phone on the 7290 and lack of polyphonic ringtones. What you're giving up is mostly superficial.

Thanks Grifter - just trying to make a sound decision since I will have this for a long while once this 30 days are up. I am getting more an dmore used to the Sure type every day, but still find some quirks with dialing letters in numbers, etc. The speakerphone is not that important to me, but I do really love the vibrant screen.

So - is there any real benefit to the 72xx over the 7100 besides the full keyboard? Are the ringers on the 72xx just plain boring? Is the vibrate any stronger than the weakish vibrate on the 7100?

The 7290 screen is MUCH better. When outside the 7100 gets washed out and then you can't see anything.
It really depends on what you want to do with the device. The 7100 is primarily a phone that you can read data on. The 7290 is primarily a data device that also has a phone.
I have a 7290 and love it, but I type on it way more than I talk on it. Since they both have BlueTooth, that is not an issue, but if you don't like the form factor for the 7290 you can always use a BT headset.
My recomendation is always the 7290!

I have used both. I currently use the 7100g. I find the headset volume to be louder on 4.0 than the 7290. For me, much louder.

Now if Jabra and RIM can get their acts together and get the BT800 working as it should with the 7100 series, I'll be pretty darn happy.

One big question, can you get by with SureType instead of the full keyboard? I found the learning curve to be pretty short. Another benefit is that it is much easier to type with one hand.

I get a ton of email daily, both work and personal, and find SureType to be pretty darn good. I just keep the replies short and will follow up from my laptop when I can.

As always, YMMV,

Andy
