Never had the problem associated with voicemail but if you are talking about a message showing up for missed calls in Messaging. This was driving me nuts for awhile until I got some help at Crackberry.

1. Go into phone mode as if you are about to dial a number.
2. Go to options ---> call logging --> none
3. That should take care of the problem.

OK I'm confused I'm with Verizon using a Blackberry 8830 on BES and I don't get a text message when I have a voicemail.

Also using 8830 w BES & VZW and I DO get a text message for each voicemail. It has always done this way back to when I first got a phone enabled Blackberry.

I am not a fan of this either. It's not technically considered a text message per se now is it, i.e. counted against your monthly allotment? It just shows up in my SMS folder, and me no likey.

Correct, it is not considered a text message for billing purposes (you won't get charged.) It is just an alert that goes in to your Messages application.

I stand corrected. I just tested it and I did get the SMS message. I guess I've been playing around learning how to use this phone so much I deleted them without realizing it I've only had a couple since I got the phone.

i am so done with verizon's voicemail!
ive been using callwave for months:
Receive cell phone voicemail in email with CallWave Visual Voicemail

the service, among other things, will email you a .wav of a new voicemail...
that wav plays fine in my 8830, so i dont even waste a 2 minute call to check my voicemail!

does callwave intercept your calls? How would that work?

you basically end up no-answer-forwarding your number to their number...
i forget the * code, i think its *71[their number], they tell you in their instructions...
you can get email, text, and callback (where you can screen the call and intercept) notifications
if you dont like it, you just turn off the call forwarding and youre right back to verizons vmail...

Got ya. That is kinda scary.
You actually pay for forwarded calls... so you may not have to pay to check your voicemail, but you would be paying while people leave you voicemail.

hmm, never saw that on my call records...
anyway, it looks like they moved the call screening to their pay service
ive had an account for a while, so maybe they forgot to shut mine off!

There is a free service called GrandCentral that I signed up for a few months ago but haven't actually used much yet.
You pick an area code and they assign you a number, and you get a bunch of advanced features. You can use the single number to find you at home, work, cell, etc.
