Question Corporate email vs Web Client

Please Login to Remove!

I have a 7100G with BES, and I also direct personal email messages to the device via the web client and filters.

When I send a message from the BB, I have the option of saying DESKTOP or WEBCLIENT

If I chose WEB, does that mean that the mail message DOES NOT go to the corporate servers first, and therefore not subject to their regulations on use about personal email? (I own the BB, so there's no issue there, but I am hoping that WEB mail does not go to company and is not seen by company propriety check programs)

My reply originally was "The Web Client is independent of BES." But now, I'm not sure that's true...the Web Client will continue to receive messages but I think messages you send will go thru BES.

I'm about to get BES, is there a way to make one or the other the default (ie not get the choice every time)?

You set one (or the other) as a default. For me "Desktop" (BES) is the default. I must specifically choose Web Client to use the BWC. The exception is that if the message came in via Web Client, that's set as the reply default. You do not have to choose the delivery method every time.

But I/m still wondering. If it's sent from the Webclient, does the corporate network/server/BES/anything touch that message, or is it directly routed to Cingular without going near the corporate network?

My understanding is:

Messages sent through the webclient will NOT touch the BES at all. Noone at work will be able to see or access those emails.

UNLESS: The exception is if you physically connect your device to your computer and a back up of your Inbox is created automatically, then there is a back up log of your Inbox and all of its contents, including the webclient emails. You can choose whether a backup will automatically begin I believe.

Bottom line- if you don't physically connect your device, webclient and desktop emails will be kept completely separate. So if you're using 4.0 on your BES, there really is no need to physically connect every anyway.

I'd like confirmation from one of the higher ups on the board about this please...
