I have downloaded mp3's to the 8830 device. I have also been able to set those mp3's as the ringtone.

My question is, how do you use mp3's for other audible alerts, such as incoming SMS messages, email notification, etc.? Where do you set the mp3 or how do you set the mp3 for the other audible alerts?

Question #2 - When you receive an incoming SMS messages, the screen does not actually "light up". It just beeps or notifies you that you have an incoming SMS , but the screen doesn't light up. Can this be changed?

To set notifications and ring tones, click on the Profiles icon, scroll down in the list that appears and click on Advanced. You'll be at a list of available profiles, with the one that's currently active selected and (Active) to the right of it.

Hit [Enter] to edit the profile, scroll down to Phone and hit Enter. You set the ringtone for the profile there.

You can also set the ringtone for the current profile when Browsing Ringtones in the Media application. Just highlight the desired MP3, hit the Menu button and select Set as Phone Tune.

Turning the screen on is not available as a notification option (would be nice though!).

Thank your for your response. I understand this. The questions is how do you set the mp3 ringtone NOT for the "set as phone tune" - but to set it for other alert notifications, e.g. SMS Text messages.

In other words, how do you set your SMS Text messages alert to an MP3 ringtone. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Dak, you set your SMS and all notifications just as JerryD described above.

Do the above and click on SMS in the list (alphabetically listed after phone) and edit.
