| 8703e (Verizon Wireless) OS4.2 and HTTPS Please Login to Remove! As I understand it, VW does not yet support OS4.2 on the 8703e. If that's the case I have some questions:
1) Does OS 4.2 work on the 8703e; if so, where can I get it and does it matter if VW does not support it?
2) If I am stuck on OS 4.1, is there a browser which support HTTPS? I've tried Opera Mini but that is not validated for the Blackberry (according to them, the last time I looked).
I got the BB partly to access certain secure web sites and was rather disappointed that I couldn't. Any help is very appreciated.

RON | OS4.2 is not available from VZW. They just upgraded the 8703 device software to 4.1.377, within the last two weeks. That's bad news for VZW customers because it likely means (although they could prove me wrong and I would be fine with that) they won't be upgrading to 4.2 any time soon, if at all. VZW is slow to release software upgrades.
OS4.2 is available for the 8700 devices, not including 8703 devices. When you find a version available for the 8703, no it won't matter that it isn't specifically for VZW. There are instructions elsewhere in these forums on how to install an OS upgrade from another carrier. If you ever have to talk to VZW after you do that, they may fuss at you and say your device is no longer supported, etc., etc. But it will work.

| Ron>>>>> VZW doesn't support or offer OS 4.2 for their 8703e, sorry. I use the current browser that came pre-loaded on my device and I am able to access HTTPS sites. Check and see in your browser configuration settings if you have something checked or un-checked.
I just went to the Bank of America site and went straight into my online banking account.

| I have gone into my BofA online banking without any problems as well, with the regular browser, not BB browser.

| Mine has two. One is labelled 'Blackberry Browser', the other simply 'Internet Browser'. I honestly don't know what the difference is, but when I tried to go on to the BofA site with the BB Browser, it said I could not use that browser, when I went on with the other it worked fine.

| At least in my case, the blackberry browser is used by my corporation to limit internet usage, whereas the internet browser is just that, a regular browser. | | Offline

| It seemed to work...but...NOT When I tried to access BofA, I get past the first sign-in screen, even get to a challenge question, but when I try to log in, I get the message that there was a communication faiilure, the server amay be busy. So, I tried another financial site, and get the same message, server is busy. Now, this is with the icon that says "Internet Explorer" (how do I find out what the application is behind the icon?)
When I used the icon "Reuters.com", I get a message that "You cannot access Online Account Services with your current Web browser."
So....????? | | Offline

| I tried mine now and it went right in. I used the one labelled simply 'internet browser'. Already has my user ID in there and everything.
Don't know. . . . .

| Maybe there's an option setting on mine that's incorrect?
BofA: I get to the Sign in page, enter online ID; enter passcode; and get to the secure area (why did this work now and not before)? The page address is HTTPS. So, BofA now works.
But other credit cards don't work. And, with Chase, I get a page called formpost.fcc which contains text like:
@username=%usr_name%
etc.
The page is HTTPS, however.
So, HTTPS access via OS 4.1 is not good; basically, it doesn't seem to work all that well. | | Offline

It was likely the Internet Browser. Though if you're a BES user it could have been either one (Blackberry Browser or Internet Browser).

Your business has the right to limit what data goes through its servers.
For those whose businesses don't limit traffic or who are on hosted BES accounts, the BlackBerry Browser is rarely different from the default browser.

| Yes, we are BES. So does that mean, because the regular browser is still available, there is no restriction on it?

In fact, I would assume it has the same restrictions on it that the BlackBerry Browser has. I could be wrong (because I'm on hosted BES not corporate BES), but I think the corporate folks can limit any usage at all once its connected to their servers. Others who are on corporate BES may be able to offer more insight on the differences.

| This is what VZW told me today:
Please know that not all sites accessed via a PC will be accessible via your device. Even sites that are designed with WAP Services in mind need to account for different mobile browsers which in turn support different versions of a specific mark-up language used to design the site.
Please contact the vendor(s) for the websites you are attempting to access and advise their webmaster you need access to their website through your Verizon Wireless services on your device.
==========
I'm not sure what to make of this. | | Offline
